HIGHLIGHTS

Amazon Prime will offer its subscribers a catalog of 100 million songs.

The OTT platform will also provide an ad-free podcast service.

The Amazon Music app will also gain a new look as part of the upgrade.

Amazon Prime is rolling out new features for its subscribers. The Prime members will now get a catalogue of 100 million songs and an ad-free podcast service. The company previously offered only 2 million songs to the users. Still, the music app will get a revamp with the newly added Podcast Previews feature that allows you to listen to short clips to discover if you are interested in the content.

The move comes after Amazon Music’s competitor Spotify has been moving into the podcasts business to generate additional revenue. However, Spotify’s paying subscriber base still has to listen to podcast ads, despite paying for the service, and this has caused outrage among the users. As a result, Amazon Music’s promise of ad-free podcasts and an entire music catalogue could be a beneficial alternative.

The ad-free podcasts are shows from top brands like CNN, NPR, The New York Times, and ESPN. Other ad-free shows include “Dr. Death,” “SmartLess,” “Even the Rich,” and the new Amazon Exclusive show “MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark & Mysterious Stories;” “Suspect: Vanished in the Snow,” “COLD Season Three: The Search for Sheree,” “Killer Psyche Daily,” “I Hear Fear,” narrated by Academy Award-nominated actress Carey Mulligan. In addition, a weekly bonus episode of “The Old Man and the Three,” hosted by former NBA player JJ Redick.
