Low-cost Apple Vision Pro might be cancelled, Vision Pro 2 planned for 2027: Kuo
HIGHLIGHTS

Apple might not launch a low-cost version of the Vision Pro headset.

Vision Pro 2 is expected to launch in 2027.

The Vision Pro shipments in 2024 will likely be lower than expected.

Apple introduced its mixed-reality headset ‘Vision Pro’ earlier this year, with an aim to make it available next year. Reports claimed that the tech giant is expected to launch a low-cost version of the Vision Pro headset. However, now, a well-renowned supply chain analyst has said that Apple might have cancelled the low-cost Vision Pro headset plan, and a Vision Pro 2 is expected to launch in 2027.

In a medium post, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said, ”Apple may have cancelled the low-cost Vision Pro version plan (with market consensus expecting a 2025 launch).”

Kuo also claimed that the Vision Pro shipments in 2024 will be at most 4,00,000–6,00,000 units, which is less than the market expectation of more than 1 million units, according to some component suppliers’ maximum production capacity estimates.

He further mentioned that the “Vision Pro 2” is expected to enter mass production by the first half of 2027, suggesting there might be no hardware updates for the Vision Pro in the coming years.

From a technical point of view, the Vision Pro will definitely provide users with an “excellent” experience, according to him.

“However, the question is why users need this product. The Vision Pro may take longer than the market expects to become the next star product of the iPhone,” he added.

The $3,499 Apple Vision Pro headset was announced at Apple’s 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). During the recently held Wonderlust event, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the headset is “on track”.

According to Apple, the Vision Pro allows users to “interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space.” The design of Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon in a dual-chip design.
