Alcatel announces Go Watch, Go Play smartphone and 17.3 inch Xess tablet
The Alcatel Go Watch and Go Play are rugged devices, and the watch even has a feature that can measure your mood.
French veteran Alcatel has announced a smartwatches, called the Go Watch, at IFA 2015. While the Moto 360, Samsung Gear S2 etc. have dominated the news, Alcatel’s smartwatch may be the first of the whacky gadgets that we see at these tech shows. According to Alcatel, the Go Watch collects data through its heart rate sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer to measure your mood. The company calls it emotional pulse measurement. The watch displays graphics on the screen, which summarise your emotional state. You can also put these on the watch’s screen as wallpapers if you wish to.
While our correspondent at IFA gets a hands on with the Go Watch, here’s a quick look at the other specs of the device. According to Alcatel, the watch has a 2-5 day battery life, which, if true, is more than both the Moto 360 and the Apple Watch. The device is also dustproof, shockproof and waterproof, says Alcatel. It will be available in the default white colour, but Alcatel is also offering a collection of wirstbands and front casings for the Go Watch.
Further, an important aspect of the Alcatel Go Watch is that it works with both Android and iOS based smartphones. Of course, that has nothing to do with Alcatel, since the watch runs on Android Wear and Google recently made the OS available to iPhones as well. While not many details of the Alcatel Go Watch are known at the moment, it will cost less than $150.
Alcatel also announced the Go Play smartphones, which is IP67 certified. Unlike usual IP67 rated smartphones though, Alcatel says this phone can also handle salt water (IP ratings are usually for fresh water only). Further, the Go Play smartphone has an 8MP rear camera, and Alcatel is selling a case for the phone, which lets you attach a GoPro to it. This can then be controlled by the Go Watch, if the two devices are paired together.
Lastly, Alcatel also announced a 17.3 inch tablet at IFA 2015 this time. The tablet, named Xess, comes with 3 Watt Harman Kardonn speakers, along with a 10,000 mAh battery and a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT8583 processor. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop along with 2GB of RAM.
