But one thing that we don’t give enough attention to is our smartphone’s battery. The battery is an essential component of our smartphone that directly correlates to the smartphone’s health and life. Some common charging practices are killing your smartphone’s battery health. So this new year, let’s make a resolution and leave behind our old and bad charging habits.

Here are some bad charging habits that are ruining your battery health.

Overnight charging

I know this is a common practice for most of us, but this does the most damage. Charging your smartphone overnight is surely convenient but it leads to overcharging. This further causes the battery to generate excessive heat and degrade over time. Instead, charge your smartphone during the day and remove it from power when it has been sufficiently charged.

Using smartphone while charging

Aren’t we all guilty of this? Most of us use our smartphones while it is on charge. Now, this increases the chances of heating up and eventually damages the battery. To maintain a good battery you should not play games, stream videos, or engage in other high-energy activities when you have plugged in your device for charging.

Using third-party chargers

This might seem like overstretching but if you are using a charger of some other brand, then you are damaging your battery life too. Your charger is optimised as per the requirements of your smartphone. Any other charger might not have proper voltage regulation or safety features. This could lead to overcharging, overheating, etc. It is always better to use the original charger that comes with your smartphone.

Not charging until battery level reached 0%

You should charge your smartphone before it reaches extremely low percentages. Today’s lithium-ion batteries perform the best when charged on time and maintained between 20% to 80% range. It reduces the stress on your battery and increases life. 

Not paying attention to battery percentage

Your smartphones regularly notify you when your battery percentage goes below the required. This message usually comes in when your battery falls below 20%. Most of us ignore this which is not a good habit. It puts unnecessary stress on the battery and damages its health.

Always charging your phone to 100%

If you are always charging your smartphone to 100% then my friend you are ruining your battery health. This puts stress on your battery. Modern-day lithium-ion batteries function best between 20-80%. Keep your battery in between this range.

Wireless charger not used correctly

Wireless charging is new but this needs to be used correctly too. Using an incorrect charger can also mess with your smartphone’s battery. Even if you place the smartphone incorrectly on the pad can also lead to overheating.
