You could soon WhatsApp yourself without using a secondary number: Here’s how

HIGHLIGHTS

WhatsApp could soon allow you to message yourself.

The new WhatsApp feature has been spotted on the desktop client.

This works thanks to WhatsApp Linked Devices feature.

WhatsApp is getting a new feature that some of us, if not all, would appreciate. The ability to message ourselves. Some of us may already be doing this by messaging on our secondary number. However, you won’t need that different number once this update rolls out. However, WABetaInfo who spotted this feature tells us that it is currently in development and is part of WhatsApp Desktop Beta.

In any case, this would be one cool extension of the linked devices feature, and here’s how it is said to work:

How to WhatsApp message yourself

  • Open WhatsApp and search for contacts
  • At the top of the contact list, there would be one named ‘You’.
  • Tap on it to send messages to yourself.

Now although this is currently seen on the desktop client and that too beta version, we suppose it would eventually make its way to the regular WhatsApp app on our phones. Also, note that this option reportedly appears only when you are logged into WhatsApp from a linked mobile device.

There is another neat trick too. But before we get to that, let’s see why this feature can prove useful.

Uses of WhatsApp Messaging Yourself

  • To save something important.
  • Perhaps jot something as a reminder
  • Take down notes.
  • Save links, photos, videos, how-to guides, etc to read later.
  • WhatsApp is usually the most used app and hence it’ll be at our fingertips. You don’t get that accessibility with other notetaking apps.

WhatsApp message yourself with the wa.me link

  • Open your browser and type wa.me//91xxxxxxxxxx (replace the Xs with your 10-digit mobile number).
  • Enter the link.
  • WhatsApp will either straight up open the WhatsApp app on your device or ask you if it should open the associated app.
  • Your chat window will appear and you can send any message as you please. After all, it is going to yourself.

So, that’s about it.
