How to mute someone on Instagram

If you don’t want to see someone’s posts in your feed, see their stories at the top of your feed or see incoming messages they send you, you can easily mute them.

Instagram doesn’t let them know you muted them. Please note that muting someone on Instagram is different from unfollowing them.

How to mute someone’s messages and calls on Instagram

Step 1: Open the Instagram app.

Step 2: Tap the arrow icon or the Messenger icon present at the top right corner of the feed.

Step 3: Open the chat of the person you want to mute.

Step 4: Now, tap the person’s name at the top of your chat.

Step 5: Tap the Mute option (Bell icon) at the top.

Step 6: Now, you can tap the toggle next to Mute messages or Mute calls to mute their messages or calls.

How to mute someone’s posts and stories on Instagram

Step 1: Open the Instagram app.

Step 2: Tap the search icon and search their username to go to their profile.

Step 3: Tap the Following option below their profile info.

Step 4: Now, select the Mute option.

Step 5: Tap the toggle next to Posts or Stories.

How to mute group chat notifications on Instagram

When you mute a group chat on Instagram, you’ll still be included in the conversation but won’t get notifications from it.

Follow the below steps to mute group chat notifications on Instagram:

Step 1: Open the Instagram app.

Step 2: Tap the arrow icon or the Messenger icon present at the top right corner of the feed.

Step 3: Open the group conversation that you want to mute.

Step 4: Now, tap the group name at the top.

Step 5: Select the Mute option (Bell icon) at the top.

Step 6: Now, tap the toggle next to Mute messages, Mute @mentions or Mute calls.
