With the entire digitalisation of currency, UPI ID has become an important means of digital transactions in the country. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a unique ID that is linked to your bank account. It is part of a system for the banks that enables you to transfer money on payment apps like Google Pay.
If a bank works with UPI, you can easily add your account to payment apps like Google Pay. Your UPI ID will be the address on such payment portals that will be used to identify or pay you. UPI ID is the first step in sending money through apps like Google Pay. Once generated your UPI ID will look like username@bankname. This username could be completely numbers too. You can then share this unique address with your friends or family to send or receive payments.
Google Pay has been in the market for over a decade now after its inception in 2011. Due to the growing digitalisation of currency, it has become a part of our day-to-day lives. It is a mobile-based application that helps you make digital payments in real time. The funds can be transferred from one bank account to the other in no time. Applications like Google Pay are called UPI-based mobile apps.
If you have not kept a note of your UPI ID or need it urgently Google Pay has a dedicated page where you can find out your UPI ID. To track your UPI ID on Google Pay go through the following steps:
Open the application Google Pay on your smartphone
Tap on your photo or account on the top right of the screen
Now tap on ‘Bank account’
Select the Bank account you want to the view the UPI ID of
Once you tap on the bank account, the next screen will show you your UPI ID(s) assigned to that particular account under ‘Manage UPI IDs’
It is important to keep a note of how to initiate your digital payment portal on Google Pay by creating a UPI ID. Follow the steps below to create a UPI ID
Open the application Google Pay n your smartphone
Tap on your photo or account on the top right of the screen
Go to ‘Payment Methods’
Select the bank account (if you have more than one) for which you want to create a fresh UPI ID
Tap on ‘Manage UPI IDs’
Tap on the ‘+’ icon which has appeared adjacent to the UPI ID that you want to create
When you want to make a payment, select the UPI ID you want to initiate payment from under ‘Choose account to pay with’
Follow the steps below to change your UPI PIN on Google Pay:
Open the application Google Pay on your smartphone
Tap on your photo or account on the top right of the screen
Go to ‘Bank account’ and select the bank account whose UPI PIN you want to edit
Tap on ‘Change UPI PIN’
Create a new UPI PIN
Confirm your edit of the UPI PIN by re-entering the PIN again
UPI PIN is similar to that of your bank account password. Make sure your UPI PIN is safe and never share it with anybody. For added safety, it is advised to keep changing your UPI ID from time to time.
