How to change your sensitive content control on Instagram

Step 1: Open the Instagram app.

Step 2: Tap on your profile picture present at the bottom right corner to go to your profile.

Step 3: Tap the three horizontal lines present at the top right corner.

Step 4: Select the Settings and privacy option.

Step 5: Tap the Suggested content option.

Step 6: Select Sensitive content.

Step 7: Tap the circle next to Less to see less content that you might find upsetting. Tap the circle next to More to see more content that you might find upsetting.

Step 8: Tap Confirm.

Keep in mind that when you choose to see more sensitive content, you’ll see more photos and videos that you might find upsetting in Explore, search, Reels, accounts that you might follow, hashtag pages and recommendations in your Feed.

What types of content and accounts does Instagram consider sensitive?

There are some categories of content and accounts that are allowed on Instagram because they don’t go against the company’s Community Guidelines, but are not eligible for recommendations.

Below are examples of content that Instagram considers sensitive:

1. Content portraying violence, such as people fighting. 
2. Material that is sexually explicit or suggestive, like images featuring people in transparent clothing. 
3. Material promoting the consumption of specific regulated items, such as tobacco or vaping products, adult services and products, or pharmaceutical drugs. 

There are also other ways which can be used to make your experience on Instagram safer, such as blocking an account.

Step 1: Tap the arrow icon or the Messenger icon present at the top right corner of the feed.

Step 2: Open the chat of the person who you want to block.

Step 3: Tap the person’s name at the top of your chat.

Step 4: Tap the Options button.

Step 5: Select the Block option, then tap again to confirm.
