Creating a Telegram Channel: A complete guide

Telegram is a very popular messaging app in today’s time. See on Telegram groups there are certain restrictions on the number of people that can be there in a group. So if you wish to share something with a restricted group then Telegram groups are fine for you but if your goal is to address a larger audience in a go then opt for channels. Telegram allows up to 2,00,000 subscribers in a particular channel.

How to create a Channel on Telegram?

1. How to create a Telegram Channel on Android/iPhone/iOS?

If you wish to create a Telegram Channel using an Android device, iPhone/iOS, then follow these steps. 

• Download, open, and set up the Telegram app on your Android device.
• You will see a pen icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen, click on it.
• Here, enter the desired name for your channel. You can even add a display picture and description here to make your channel stand out.
• Once you are happy with these details, click on the tick-mark icon, which you will see on the top-right corner of your screen.
• Next, you have to decide if you wish to keep your channel public or private. For this, in the Channel Settings, Select the “Channel type” between “Public Channel” or “Private Channel”
• Now, if you have created a Public Channel then also set a permanent link for it. This permanent link is what people are going to search for and eventually join your Channel. If you are using an iPhone/iOS device then you can even toggle off the “Restrict Saving Content” option at this point. This prevents subscribers from saving content on the channel.
• Then click on the tick icon to confirm.
• Telegram will then ask you to add subscribers to your newly created Channel. You can even skip this option for the moment.
• Simply click on the right-pointing arrow to continue and you have now created your channel.

2. How to Create a Telegram Channel on PC (Mac/Windows)?

If you wish to use the desktop version of Telegram to create your Channel, then follow these steps: 

• Open the Telegram Desktop app.
• Click on the note icon that you will see on the top-right corner of the screen.
• Now, from the drop-down menu select “New Channel”.
• Simply, add a name, description, and display picture for your Channel.
• Click on “Next”.
• You now have the option to choose if you wish to keep your Channel public or private. Simply choose the “CHANNEL TYPE” by clicking on either “Public” or “Private” options. Remember, if you are creating a public channel then also create its permanent link.
• Click on “Done” and your new Telegram channel is ready.
