TicWatch Pro smartwatch review: Mobvoi’s foray into Premium smartwatches
The Ticwatch Pro is Mobvoi's best and most premium smartwatch yet and comes with a lot of premium specs, which you'd expect at its price range.
Mobvoi or Ticwatch aren't exactly household names, with the Ticwatch being a relatively new line of smartwatches. It was only last year that the Ticwatch S and Ticwatch E came out, which were apparently pretty good. This year, the company has followed up with the Ticwatch Pro.
Build Quality
Mobvoi, the company behind Ticwatch, have moved on to smartwatches from creating AI for smart devices, such as wearables, headphones and more. This has translated to the Ticwatch Pro, which is the company's best and most premium smartwatch yet. Considering their previous smartwatch entries were budget entrants, this wasn't exactly a feat.
The Ticwatch Pro features a premium design, and comes with dual-screen tech, which boosts the watch's battery life to weeks, instead of a few days, which is common for Wear OS smartwatches. At Rs. 23,000, the watch is priced pretty reasonably, considering the specs and features it packs.
In addition to a more premium look and feel, the watch is also IP68 waterproof, and uses a leather and silicone strap design. It's not a very thick or bulky watch, but it is thicker than its predecessors. It has two buttons on the right side, which are on the 2 and 4 positions of the clock face. They're both the same size and have good tactile feedback on pressing them.
The top button is used to access the menu of apps on the watch and exit back to the watch face. The bottom button opens your most used app, which is the Ticwatch Fitness app by default. This is changeable.
The display combines an OLED and LCD screen, hence, dual-screen. This is the standout feature of the Ticwatch Pro, that also gives it an edge when it comes to battery life.
Specs and Features
The Ticwatch Pro comes with a lot of premium specs, which you'd expect at its price range. It's running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, which is the latest version of their wearable chipset. In comparison to most other premium smartwatches, the Ticwatch Pro only has 512MB of RAM. We don't necessarily think it hindered performance, but there were times where we think the watch slowed down for a few seconds. The Ticwatch Pro runs on Wear OS software, which works with many Android Wear watches. Setting it up was easy, we simply needed to follow the instructions on the phone and the smartwatch, which at most times was simply accepting to move on to the next step.
WearOS has been around for a while now and has had a chance to mature over the years, so it's not quite as rough around the edges as it used to be. Google's range of WearOS apps is not vast, but when it comes to smartwatches in itself, it's among the most.
While navigating the phone is pretty easy, the added need to use the Mobvoi app as well complicates things a bit. You'll often be prompted to download the Mobvoi app in order to fully utilise the watch's features, including a lot of the watch's fitness features. However, the Ticwatch Pro isn't exactly designed for fitness; it does provide the basic tracking features you'd expect from a premium smartwatch. So it has everything you need when it comes to tracking your basic workouts such as running, cycling, and swimming.
