CES 2025: Samsung and LG tease future of TV with AI inside

Updated on 06-Jan-2025

At CES 2025, Samsung and LG have unveiled their latest TV lineups, showcasing significant advancements in panel technology and AI integration. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the two big brands are going to showcase this year around the world.

Samsung’s TV innovations

Neo QLED TVs: Samsung introduced new Neo QLED models, including 8K and 4K variants, featuring AI-driven enhancements. The AI Upscaling Pro, previously exclusive to 8K models, is now available on 4K TVs, improving content resolution across the board. Additionally, Auto HDR Remastering Pro utilizes AI to dynamically enhance color, and Real Depth Enhancer Pro analyzes image depth for a more immersive viewing experience.

Gaming and Glare-Free Tech: The flagship models, QN990F and QN90F, incorporate Glare Free technology, effectively eliminating screen glare to enhance viewing comfort. This feature, previously seen in the S95D OLED TV, is now extended to these new models. Samsung’s top-tier models support high refresh rates, with the QN990F offering up to 4K at 240Hz, catering to the demands of modern gaming.

Vision AI Suite: Samsung’s Vision AI consolidates various AI-powered features, including AI Upscaling, Auto HDR Remastering, and Adaptive Sound Pro. New additions like ‘Click to Search’ allow users to identify on-screen elements, while ‘Samsung Food’ provides recipes based on displayed dishes. ‘Live Translate’ offers real-time translation of closed captions in multiple languages.

LG’s TV innovations

OLED Evo TVs: LG’s 2025 OLED Evo lineup boasts enhanced brightness through the upgraded Brightness Booster Ultimate technology, achieving up to three times higher brightness levels than conventional OLED models. This is accomplished by refining light control architecture and employing advanced algorithms, according to LG. A feature called Dynamic Tone Mapping Professional claims to offer content creators greater control over HDR10 content, ensuring optimal picture quality across various lighting conditions.

AI Search and Microsoft Copilot Integration: LG’s new AI Search leverages large language models for contextual understanding, enhancing user interaction. The integration of Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant further aids in efficiently finding and organizing complex information using contextual cues.

Gaming Features: The 2025 OLED Evo models support a 165Hz variable refresh rate at 4K resolution and are certified with Nvidia G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium, reducing input lag and enhancing the gaming experience.

Both Samsung and LG are emphasising AI integration to enhance user experience, offering features that adapt to viewing habits, improve picture and sound quality, and provide interactive functionalities. These advancements reflect a significant shift towards more intelligent and responsive home entertainment systems in 2025.

Samsung Frame Pro 2025: One of a kind?

Samsung’s Frame series has long been celebrated for seamlessly blending television functionality inside a modern art piece, for which it deserves its own special subhead. The 2025 iteration, The Frame Pro, introduces notable enhancements that elevate both its artistic display and entertainment capabilities.

A significant upgrade in The Frame Pro is the transition to Mini LED technology. This advancement aims to deliver improved contrast, brightness, and deeper black levels, enhancing the viewing experience. However, it’s important to note that, unlike traditional Mini LED setups with backlighting, The Frame Pro positions the Mini LEDs along the bottom edge of the panel. This design choice may result in performance akin to edge-lit displays, potentially affecting the uniformity of local dimming.

Another noteworthy feature is the Wireless One Connect Box, which replaces the previous wired connection. Supporting Wi-Fi 7, this box can transmit signals to the TV from up to 10 meters away, contributing to a cleaner and more flexible installation.

The Frame Pro also incorporates AI-powered functionalities, including ‘Click to Search’ for instant information retrieval about on-screen content, ‘Samsung Food’ for recipe suggestions based on displayed dishes, and ‘Live Translate’ for real-time translation of closed captions in multiple languages.
