Tecno Camon-i: A camera-centric phone that lights the way
At the back of the phone is a 13MP camera that is aided by a quad-LED flash for low light imaging. At the front is a 13MP unit that combines and LED flash and a screen flash for brighter selfies.
Smartphone camera tech has come a long way from the early days. What was once thought to be just another way to take pictures is now the primary camera for most of us. No wonder that so many flagship devices highlight the camera as one of the main features of the phone.
However, Tecno feels that a quality camera should not be exclusive to flagship devices. The company's Camon-i smartphone comes with a number of interesting features. At the back of the phone, you get a 13MP primary camera with a quad-led flash. Tecno has also paid heed to the current selfie generation and equipped the smartphone with a 13MP camera with a screen flash and a LED flash. Let’s take a closer look at the camera samples of the phone.
Front camera
Instead of using an inferior camera at the front, Tecno uses a 13MP unit for the front and back. This means that the quality between the two cameras should not differ that much. You also get to use the Beauty mode that helps to reduce blemishes and improve the overall look of the photo. There are eight levels of beautification to choose from.
Flash
To help take pictures in low-light conditions, Tecno has equipped the Camon-i with an LED flash. However, that’s not all. Besides the LED flash, the screen also lights up when taking a selfie. This helps brighten up selfies taken in low-light conditions. Above is an example of the difference that the flash can make when taking selfies in darkness.
Rear camera
As mentioned before, the rear camera setup consists of a single 13MP camera with a quad-led flash. The app interface is pretty simple and uncomplicated with a large shutter button that makes it easy to take a shot. The gallery can be accessed via a button on the right of the shutter, while the filters button is on the left. On top, you get access to the different modes, flash toggle, HDR toggle as well as a button to take photos in a 1:1 ratio.
Quad-Flash
As mentioned earlier, the phones features a quad-camera setup, which means that instead of a single LED to light up a room, you get a cluster of four LEDs to take a shot. The difference that this makes is pretty evident in the set of photos above. In the first shot, the subject is in a low-light environment and the flash is turned off. For the second shot, the only difference is that the flash is turned on.
Panorama
The Panorama mode is pretty self explanatory. The mode lets you take wide shots by slowly panning the phone. The implementation is pretty straight forward. Simply hold the phone straight and follow the arrow. That’s it. The phone will automatically stitch everything together to create a single image.
Filters
If you want to instantly add an artistic touch to any photo that you take, then filters are the way to go. The phone offers you the choice of eight filters to choose from. Further, these filters are live, so you can see how a photo will look before you take the shot. On top of all this, these filters can also be used when taking selfies.
As one can see, features that the Tecno Camon-i offers makes it quite a capable performer in a variety of lighting conditions. On top of this, you also get a bunch of added features that help you make most of the camera on the smartphone. To know more about the Techno Camon-i, click here.
