Specification comparison: Panasonic Eluga Ray Max vs competition
HIGHLIGHTS

With its AI-based assistant Arbo, and an impressive list of specifications, the Panasonic Eluga Ray Max makes for an interesting smartphone.

Panasonic’s newest smartphone, the Eluga Ray Max is a pretty good device to consider at Rs. 11,499. However, there are numerous smartphones that you can consider for that amount. To make sure that the smartphone stands well above its peers, Panasonic has added a bunch of features to ensure that the Eluga Ray Max stands out. The biggest being the inclusion of a AI-base assistant called Arbo.

While smartphones have become ‘smart’, they aren't able to think by themselves yet. However, with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), things have started to change. The next generation of phones won’t just be smart, but they will be intelligent too. They will learn more about the user everyday and offer features and notifications tailored to each user. So even though two people may have the same smartphone, the experience they get may be very different.

With the inclusion of Arbo, Panasonic is offering something that is completely unique at its price point. Let’s take a look at what the Eluga Ray Max offers and compare it to a couple of its competitors, namely the Moto G5 and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note.

The Panasonic Eluga Max sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 platform with 4GB of RAM. The phone also features a 3000mAh battery along with a 16MP rear and 8MP front camera. The device offers 32GB of inbuilt storage and runs Android Marshmallow. However, the biggest new feature in the Panasonic Eluga Ray Max has to be the new Arbo AI-based assistant. While there are other AI-based assistants in the market, the Eluga Ray Max offers the same at an affordable price. Arbo will be released as a FOTA update around April 20.

Arbo is unique to Panasonic smartphones and is not available on devices by other manufacturers. The assistant learns how you use the phone and then offers notifications tailored to the way you use your device. It will offer prompts based on location and suggest that you switch some settings. For example, Arbo will learn where your home is, and will then offer suggestions like turning on the Wi-Fi. It will also learn your app habits and will know if you usually tend to use a specific app at a particular time. If you have to switch to a new Panasonic in the future, you won’t have to teach Arbo your habits all over again. It will know that it’s you and will offer the same set of notifications. So you’ll have a phone that is truly yours.

The Moto G5 sports a smaller 5-inch display and is powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 platform. It offers 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It also sports offers 13MP and 5MP camera, as well as a slightly smaller 2800mAh battery. The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note sports a large 5.5-inch, and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 SoC. Like the Panasonic Eluga Ray Max, the K5 Note also offers 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage. However, it should also be noted that the G5 and the K5 Note do not come with an AI-based assistant. Here’s how the three devices stack up against each other.

AI Assistant Yes No No

Of course, neither of Panasonic’s competitors offer an AI-based assistant like Arbo. The inclusion of the assistant makes the smartphone truly unique amongst its peers and makes it a compelling purchase. As one can see from the table above, the Panasonic Eluga Ray Max’s display size of 5.2-inches sits right in the middle of the G5 and K5 Note. So the display is neither very big, and nor is it too small. The Moto G5 also offers 3GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage as compared to the 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage offered by the Eluga Ray Max. While the Lenovo K5 Note matches Panasonic’s new smartphone in terms of memory and offers a larger battery, the Eluga offers a larger 16MP rear camera.
