Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy M12 in India for people looking for a budget smartphone. The Galaxy M12 has all the bells and whistles that you would normally expect from a budget phone and then some. It has a high refresh rate display, quad cameras on the back and a large capacity battery.
At its asking price, the Galaxy M12 goes up against the likes of the Redmi Note 10 that launched earlier this month in India. While Samsung does manage to under Xiaomi’s offering, let’s take a look at how the Galaxy M12 compares against the Redmi Note 10.
Samsung Galaxy M12 is priced starting at Rs 10,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage while the 6GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 13,499.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 10 is priced starting at Rs 11,999 for the 4GB+64GB variant and Rs 13,999 for the 6GB+128GB storage option.
The Galaxy M12 and the Redmi Note 10 are both budget phones and have a similar plastic build. The Samsung Galaxy M12 has a textured finish while the Redmi Note 10 has a glossy back panel. The Galaxy M12 measures 9.7 millimetres in thickness and weighs 221 grams while the Redmi Note 10 has 8.3 millimetres thickness and weighs 178.8 grams.
The Samsung Galaxy M12 features a 6.5-inch HD+ (1600×720 pixels) resolution display that supports a 90Hz high-refresh-rate and has a waterdrop notch cutout on top. The Redmi Note 10, on the other hand, has a 6.43-inch Full HD+ (2400×1080 pixels) resolution display that uses a Super AMOLED panel with a punch-hole notch cutout in the centre. The screen is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection.
Samsung Galaxy M12 is powered by the Exynos 850 processor with an octa-core CPU running at upto 2.0GHz and Mali-G52 GPU. This is paired with upto 6GB RAM and 128GB storage options to choose from. It runs on One UI 3.0 out-of-the-box which is based on Android 11.
The Redmi Note 10 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 under the hood that has an octa-core CPU running at upto 2.2GHz and Adreno 612 GPU. This is also paired with upto 6GB RAM and upto 128GB storage options to choose from. The Redmi Note 10 runs on MIUI 12 based on Android 11.
The Galaxy M12 has a single loudspeaker unit while the Redmi Note 10 has stereo speakers. Both phones have a power button that doubles up as the fingerprint reader.
The Samsung Galaxy M12 has a 48MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 5MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 123-degree field-of-view, 2MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. There is an 8MP selfie camera and the rear cameras can record in 1080p at 30FPS.
Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Note 10 with a primary 48MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field-of-view, 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The rear cameras can record in 4K at 30FPS and 1080p at 60FPS. There’s a 13MP selfie camera on the front as well.
The Samsung Galaxy M12 has a large 6,000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging while the Redmi Note 10 has a 5,000mAh battery at its disposal that supports 33W fast charging out-of-the-box.
