HIGHLIGHTS

As smartphones are taking the centrestage in our daily lives, the role of processors has become an even more important factor in deciding how they impact the overall experience.

A modern smartphone is more akin to a computer than a phone, and just like in any computer, the processor is one of the most important components in a device. A powerful SoC usually means that the phone itself would be pretty good. This component usually consists of different parts like  a CPU (Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), memory and other peripheries on a single chipset and each part is responsible for specific tasks.

The CPU is the heart of any smartphone. These CPUs generally consist of a number of cores, so a quad-core processor consists of four cores, while an octa-core processor consists of eight cores. In a quad-core setup, each core can be used to simultaneously work on a single task. An octa-core setup actually consists of such two quad-core setups and tasks are split between them based on how intensive they are. One of them is a lower powered and is used to handle everyday tasks, while the higher powered cores has used to handle demanding tasks like gaming. The octa-core setup offers much smoother multitasking and is more power efficient.

The GPU processes graphical and visual data. So a more powerful GPU would be able to able to render complex web pages and video games much faster. Further, since its the GPU that handles these tasks, it relieves pressure on the CPU, which in turn would reduce battery consumption.

Besides this, the processor also has dedicated subparts that are tasked with running specific functions like photography, videography, and audio playback. An overall faster processor leads to minimal lag when performing various tasks.

Huawei is known for being one of the companies that is at the cutting-edge of technology. The company is about to launch a phone with a powerful processor that is more powerful than many other chipsets that are currently being used on other smartphones.
