OxygenOS team reveals plans for new OxygenOS, OTA updates & OnePlus Two
OnePlus Ones’ OxygenOS team held an AMAA session on Reddit where they talked about OxygenOS, how OnePlus will get updated and the upcoming OnePlus Two.
Last night, OnePlus announced its OxygenOS team which will develop the new OxygenOS for its present and future devices. It also revealed that the OxygenOS team is comprised of many Paranoid Android members who will be heading important facets of the development.
After this announcement the team held an AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) session on Reddit. We were there to ask some important questions that we weren’t clear about, here is a snippet from the IRC chat session as well with the OnePlus representatives. We have also included some important questions from the corresponding Reddit thread.
Q: When will you release the final version of OxygenOS, I read earlier in the chat it was 2017?
A: The final version will be in 2019, not 2017. However, a stable version will be out in Q2 of this year
Q: How much difference are we talking about between the stable ROM coming this year and the final ROM coming in 2019?
A: That depends on what the users want. We want the users to decide what ROM they want to run!
Q: Will Oneplus One users get it as an OTA or will we have to flash it?
A: For the OnePlus One, it will likely not be an OTA, but rather a choice for users who want to try something new and are willing to flash it themselves.
Q: How long will the OnePlus One will be supported by OnePlus?
A: I announced that we've be supporting it for two years starting from when we release the community build, which happened on Jan 1, 2015.
Q: Can someone please comment on the whole CyanogenMod situation? Did they sort of breach contract by signing exclusivity with another brand in India? How is the relationship between OP and CM right now?
A: We're working together on supporting the One and of course the CM12S build. We wouldn't be where we are if not for Cyanogen's help. On the legal front, everyone has a different understanding, and we're still waiting for the final verdict.
Q: What are your plans for the OnePlus Two? Can you give me an estimated time period after which OnePlus Two would be announced?
A: We plan to keep the price tag about the same, but the specs will definitely be the best, making the OnePlus Two a true flagship killer. Q2 or Q3
Q: If the OnePlus Two will be available later this year, what OS will it be running out of the box?
A: A stable version of OxygenOS.
Q: How much difference are we talking about between the stable ROM coming this year and the final ROM coming in 2019?
A: That depends on what the users want. We want the users to decide what ROM they want to run!
From this Q/A it is clear that a stable build of the Oxygen ROM for the OnePlus One will coming later this year in Q2. Customers will have an option to flash the ROM directly. It was also indicated that the ROM could also be installed via an installer which would be made available alongside the ROM and will work on Windows,Mac and Linux.
