OnePlus X Camera Test: We’re impressed!

OnePlus X Camera Test: We’re impressed!
HIGHLIGHTS

A sleek glass body and good cameras on the back and front – that's what the OnePlus X relies on.

The newly-launched OnePlus X may be all about the design, but it's got a pretty great camera on it. But, saying the camera is good doesn't really tell you much, does it? The following sections will.

We pit the OnePlus X against its predecessor – the OnePlus One – along with the Meizu MX5, which is one of its chief competitors. In addition, the much-higher-priced Moto X Style smartphone was also used for the test, to see how close the camera on the OnePlus X is, to the Moto X Style. So, without further ado, let's get right down to it.

OnePlus X vs OnePlus One

The first question that everyone has been asking about is whether the OnePlus X has a better camera than the OnePlus One. On paper, both the phones have 13MP cameras on the back. But, placed next to each other, the difference can be spotted quite easily. The OnePlus X has the better camera here – images taken by the OnePlus X are more vibrant, and have better colours and lesser noise than the OnePlus One. In addition, the noise in the images taken using the OnePlus One increase much more under low light, and in order to compensate for it, the phone makes the images soft, and ends up ruining the images. The OnePlus X, on the other hand, is better under low light, normal light and other light conditions.

OnePlus X vs Meizu MX5

While the OnePlus One will almost certainly be replaced in the Indian market now, the Meizu MX5 is arguably the closest competitior that the OnePlus X may have in the market right now. Not surprisingly, though, the OnePlus X's camera came out to be the better of the two here, as well. Pictures taken by the Meizu MX5 had a pinkinsh tint on them, while the OnePlus X took more balanced and better-looking images. The Meizu MX5's images are also oversaturated, which many may not like. In addition, the OnePlus X can focus faster, and has faster shutter response.

OnePlus X vs Moto X Style

Despite all its camera prowess, though, the OnePlus X couldn't surpass the Moto X Style. That said, for a phone that costs about half of what the Moto X Style costs, the OnePlus X is mighty close in overall quality. Placed side by side, you can see the superiority of the Moto X Style, but the difference would be harder to tell otherwise. The OnePlus X is equally fast in shutter response and focusing in comparison to the Moto X Style, but lacks the kind of details that the Style can produce in low light. In proper lighting conditions, the images are really close, which is good for the OnePlus X.
