Nokia Lumia 720: First Impressions

Nokia Lumia 720: First Impressions
HIGHLIGHTS

We had the chance to use the Nokia Lumia 720 at the event announcing the Lumia 520's launch in India. Here are our observations of Nokia's new mid-range device.

One of the two Nokia phones (the other being the Lumia 520) to be launched in India today, the Lumia 720 was shown off at a press event in New Delhi.  We had a chance to use the smartphone for a very short while, and we have some observations about the device.

Before we start, let us run you through the specifications first. The Nokia Lumia 720 gets the power from a 1GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, which is supported by 512MB of RAM. The Lumia 720 gets 8GB built-in storage, and a memory card slot for up to 64GB more. The 4.3-inch display is the ClearBlack type, and has the Gorilla Glass 2.0 treatment.

Nokia claims that the touchscreen is sensitive enough to even work with gloves or nails. The 6.7MP camera can do 720p HD videos, and certain high-end features have been introduced with the Lumia 720 – CinemaGraph, Smart Shoot and Glam Me.

• The Nokia Lumia 720 is a very well-built device. While it is not a metal unibody, the quality of plastic cover is rather good.

• Multiple colour options for the cover means you can pretty much change it often enough to match your clothes!

• The wireless charging feature works once you purchase the separate accessories – the cover and the wireless charging base.

• Display seems very crisp, and text readability was a rather comfortable experience. Colours are quite rich, but we will reserve comment till we test it in detail.

• There are a whole bunch of camera features that we will talk about in detail in the review of the phone. While they all look very interesting, we will reserve judgement till the time we actually click some photos and see how well they work.

Nokia has still not confirmed the pricing of the Lumia 720, but we expect this to be priced under Rs. 20,000.

We will have a detailed review of the Nokia Lumia 720 soon. In the meantime, you can check out some pictures of the phone.

The 4-3-inch ClearBlack display at the front, with the three touch sensitive keys below it. The look is very similar to most of the Lumia phones. It very comfortable for single hand operation, thanks to the compact size and the slightly curved spines.

Clean back is also now a trademark of the Lumia phones. The design minimalism speaks for itself. It will be available in yellow, red, cyan, white and black colour options.

One side spine has the volume rocker, the power key and the camera key.

The other side spine is completely clean.

The 3-5mm headphone jack on the top.

The microUSB charging port sits at the bottom.
