Moto X: Performance review and benchmarks comparison
While the Moto G was a great performer in its class. Now, let's find out how its elder brother performs compared to other smartphones in a series of tests.
The Moto X arrived a little later in India than the Moto G and sadly hasn’t managed to create a similar buzz. The smartphone does seem similar to Moto G in terms of design and features. The major differences between the two include a larger a display (4.7 vs 4.5), a higher resolution camera (10MP vs 5MP) and a different SoC altogether (1.7GHz Krait dual core vs 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 quad core).
Now, let’s talk about performance. While a majority of people stick to a notion that smartphones with a processor having more cores is always better, we believe that it depends on whether the hardware can handle tasks and processes and at the same time, how good is the memory management on the device. For this reason we took the Moto X through our standard performance tests to see if it is better than Moto G. Of course, synthetic benchmarking is not the most accurate way to determine the performance capability of a smartphone, but then it does give us some figures to compare with other devices.
The results make it clear that the Moto X is definitely as good as a Nexus smartphone and even better than the Moto G. Scrolling through menus and the homescreens is smooth and apps used on daily basis work great. Multitasking is handled well thanks to the 2 gigs of RAM on board.
We also compared the different runtimes offered on the Moto X (Dalvik and ART) and while we didn’t see any noticeable difference in the performance, benchmark results proved that Dalvik is better than the new ART which was introduced with Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat.
