HIGHLIGHTS

Here's how the brand new Moto M fares against its prime competition, including the Lenovo Z2 Plus, Moto G4 Plus and more!

Lenovo has launched the Moto M in India, and prices for the phones start at Rs. 15,999. The new phone is placed between the Moto G series and its flagship Moto Z series of phones. While the design of the Moto M is very similar to the G series, the metal unibody design is what differentiates it.

The Moto M offers a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is the first phone in India to be powered by the MediaTek Helio P15 SoC. It is available in two variants, one with 3GB RAM/32GB storage, and other with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. At the back of the device is a 16MP camera with PDAF, while at the front is an 8MP camera. The device is equipped with a 3050mAh battery and runs Android Marshmallow v6.0. It should also be noted that the Moto M sports a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of a front-mounted one as found on the G4 Plus.

The Moto M will be up against the Moto G4 Plus, alongside the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo Z2 Plus and more. Let’s take a look at how the Moto M fares against these devices, in terms of specifications and pricing.

Since we haven’t had a chance to test a phone powered by the MediaTek Helio P15 SoC yet, it is too early to know how powerful the Moto M is in real life usage, as compared to other devices. However, it’s highly unlikely that will be able to match up to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC found on the Lenovo Z2 Plus. Further, it only has a 3050mAh battery, and the Redmi Note 3 outscores the Moto M in terms of battery capacity. It is, however, larger than the Moto G4 Plus and Vivo V5.

With a 16MP front-facing camera, the Moto M matches most other phones in terms of front camera megapixel count. However, when it comes to selfies, none of the devices come close to the 20MP camera found on the Vivo V5 in terms of megapixel count. Further, users also get the option of a 64GB storage variant of the phone with an option to expand the storage. While the Z2 Plus also offers 64GB native storage, it does not offer expandable storage.

To know exactly how the Moto M fares against its competition in everyday use, stay tuned for our full review of the device.
