Moto E: 5 reasons why you shouldn’t buy it

HIGHLIGHTS

Cost-cutting on the Moto E shows once you actually use the device. Despite its premium feel and amazing price, its missing some features which might be quite essential for some users.

Moto E is definitely a great buy for its price; no doubts about that. But just like any smartphone (in any category), it has shortcomings. Costing at just Rs 6,999, it was obvious that Motorola had to do some cost-cutting which makes users of Moto E miss out on some features.

We have already given you the 10 reasons why you should buy it. Now here are the reasons why you should skip it if you:

1. Skip Moto E if you want a good camera and LED flash
Moto E has a very bad camera, let us just be clear about that. It has no autofocus and the sensor is so bad that you can't get proper shots even in good lighting conditions. The photos lack vibrance, contrast and detail especially when you zoom in. Motorola has also skipped equiping an LED flash on the back which means you won't be able to do any photography in dim lighting conditions. With its low cost, it is expected that it would miss such features. The provided 5MP camera doesn't even compare to the 5MP camera on the Moto G which produces a lot better images. The colour reproduction on the Moto E is really bad and photos look dark even in well-lit conditions. This just adds to the misery of all those looking for a decent snapper on a budget smartphone that is Moto E.

2. Skip Moto E if you want a front facing camera
In addition to the missing LED flash on the back, Moto E is missing a front-facing camera as well. This means that users won't be able to use apps like Skype and Google Hangouts. Together with the missing LED and low-grade camera on the back, Moto E is a bad choice for those looking to take selfies. If you are a selfie-addict and like to do a lot of video chatting, then look somewhere else.

3. If you want to play the latest (graphically intensive) games
Another aspect where Moto E would find themselves behind is gaming. The hardware on the smartphone isn't quite powerful enough to do any mid-level or high-end gaming. Light games should work just fine. But when it comes to graphics-intensive games, Moto E gives up. There are constant lags in most games and any smooth experience of gaming isn't possible. With the provided 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor and Adreno 302 at 400MHz, the phone is only made for light tasks and not for gaming or any graphics intensive tasks.

4. Want a big-screen smartphone
There are users who are getting more comfortable with large screens. Moto E is not for those who want a large screen for watching movies and videos. Even though the 4.3-inch screen size is ideal for one-hand usage, it will still disappoint those who prefer smartphone experience on large displays. Don't buy the Moto E if you have such a preference.

5. Can't decide without experiencing the device
Being exclusively sold by Flipkart, chances of you getting a hands-on experience are low. Unless you know someone who has bought it and only then it is possible for you to get some time with the device. Considering the current choices, you'll just have to go ahead and buy it and hope Flipkart delivers in your area. Motorola has stuck to its marketing practice of selling its Android smartphones through the e-commerce site just like it is doing with its mid-range Moto G and high-end Moto X. As of now, users have to rely on user-reviews to make their choice if they wish to grab a Moto E. Whether you like the phone or not, you will know only once the delivery reaches your home. Plus you always have the issue of Flipkart running out of Moto phones.
