Mobile phones have come a long way from the humble gadgets we used to carry around to just make calls. Modern smartphones have become such an indispensable part of our lives that we carry them with us wherever we go. So, it was just a matter of time before the devices transformed into bold fashion statements that voice out the preferences, tastes and aspirations of the owner. However, one of the fundamental problems with buying smartphones as fashion accessories is that anyone can buy it. And if anyone can buy it, there is nothing special about it.
This has spurred smartphone manufacturers to release customised or limited edition versions of their popular models. In fact, this is a strategy as old as time, back when feature phones ruled the roost. These customised phones usually have a set theme that they follow, They are usually based on a fictional character, a sports team, a movie, or in some cases, are available in a very unique colour option or have jewels encrusted on the body. Some of the more unique ones from the past include the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition, featuring a Batman-themed UI and case — a must-have for any comic book fan. HTC X PHUNK ONE M8 featured a black tribal tattoo on the back that frankly looks awesome and would suit anyone with even a slight inclination towards any of the arts.
OPPO is no stranger to limited editon phones. The company has previously partnered with the likes of ICC and FC Barcelona to launch limited edition smartphones aimed at die hard sports fans. The OPPO F1 ICC WT20 Limited Edition came with a gift kit that included a 2016 ICC World Twenty20 key chain, selfie stick, and a back cover showing the ICC logo. The OPPO F1 Plus FCB Edition sports a blue and red colour scheme, an FC Barcelona themed interface, along with other FCB related touches. Just for India, the company even launched a Diwali Limited Edition version of the OPPO F1s. This version of the phone came with a Diwali-themed pattern as well as laser engraved signatures of Bollywood superstars, Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor.
In India, cricket is a religion. That’s why the company has partnered with the official governing body for cricket in the country, BCCI to become the chief sponsor for the Indian cricket team. However, that’s not all that OPPO has in store for cricket fans in India. The company is also planning to launch the OPPO F3 BCCI Limited Edition version of its newest smartphone, the OPPO F3. The new smartphone looks svelte in black and features the BCCI logo at the back. Perfect for hardcore fans of the Indian cricket team. However, there will only be a handful of these devices up for grabs and that too via an auction. And that's not all, the device is also autographed by the current captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, former captain, MS Dhoni & Ravichandran Ashwin. So, if you are a cricket fan and wish to own a device that can make a statement, then better get ready to start making bids!
Even if you aren’t able to get your hands on the OPPO F3 BCCI Limited Edition, don’t worry. The company will be launching a Black version of the smartphone very soon. This version is identical to the original in every way, except for the colour. So you still get the same list of specification including the impressive dual-front cameras with the double view group selfie camera.
