LG Optimus G Pro: First Impressions
LG showed off the Optimus G Pro at the Tech Show in Delhi recently. We had a chance to click some pictures at the event, and form our first impressions, which we wanted to share with you. No word yet on when it will officially arrive in India.
LG has been fairly slow in terms of an official India launch for the Optimus G Pro, a phone that has been around for quite a while now, globally. The logical thing would have been to launch this with, or sometime around the launch, of the Optimus G. But, the fact that this phone showed up at the LG Tech Show in Delhi recently, is an indication that LG is thinking on the lines of launching this in India soon.
Let us run you through the specs first. The Optimus G Pro packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, coupled with Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The display is a 5.5-inch IPS one, with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The phone has 32GB of built-in storage, with a memory card slot to expand that up to 64GB. The 13MP HD video recording camera gets the HDR feature. The most interesting bit is the 3140mAh mammoth battery that will take care of the backup. The Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 has a 3100mAh battery however, just to put things in perspective.
The Optimus G Pro, unlike its smaller sibling – the Optimus G, has a slightly shiny tone to its finish. The plastic on the back, particularly in the white finish we saw it in, had the typical enamel finish that betrays the lack of metal on the chassis instantly. But, what does act as an antidote is a metallic strip of silver that frames the phone.
Up front, the 5.5-inch display has a very thin bezel on the right and the left, making this phone less wide than what it could have been, had attention not been paid to that aspect. Below the display are two touch sensitive keys – return and options, and one physical button – Home. This looks a lot like the theme that Samsung uses on their newer Galaxy smartphones, but before you jump on us with a dagger, we were just stating an observation! On the back panel is the camera, the LED flash and the handsfree speaker – as if in a straight line.
What really impressed us was the quality of the display. The 5.5-inch real estate does very well in terms of colour reproduction. We did not see gradation or banding, at least on the content that we checked. Text readability is helped by the fact that this display is natively quite crisp. Reading text on a webpage without zooming in is surprisingly comfortable.
We have not heard anything concrete from LG yet, regarding the launch of the Optimus G Pro. There are indications of a May-June launch of the phone, at a price of around Rs. 35,000. But, quite frankly, it just might be a little too late for the Optimus G Pro, because Samsung will be bringing in the next update for the Note series a few months later.
In the meantime, you can check out some images of the phone, taken at the LG event.
