Lenovo Vibe Z: Unique Android user-interface
The UI on the Lenovo Vibe Z is quite unique and offers a bunch of customization. Here's a look at how Lenovo has made the Vibe Z stand out with its own custom UI skin.
The Lenovo Vibe Z runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the company’s own custom UI on top which reminds us of many of the Chinese smartphones that we have reviewed in the past. The UI is quite unique as it doesn’t offer the standard features as seen on most of the Android smartphones. For instance, there is no menu drawer so all the icons for the apps are placed on various homescreens. You can add the usual widgets and change wallpapers as well which are a standard feature on Android.
Lenovo has also added a themes section which allows you to change the look of your UI with a bunch of pre-installed themes. The themes change the wallpaper and icons, giving your smartphone a fresh feel. You can also do a bit of tweaking thanks to some launcher preferences that are available like transition effects, scrolling effects, and so on.
The lockscreen is pretty standard where you get your time and date and some themes offer lockscreen toggles to directly open apps when unlocking the phone. However you don’t get widgets on the lockscreen like other Android Jelly Bean devices.
Overall the UI looks cool and doesn’t take a lot of time to get used to all the features. Regarding the performance it does seem quite heavy but thanks to the 2GB RAM it manages to run pretty smooth. Enabling all the animations and transition effects does make the UI a bit twitchy although it isn’t a huge issue.
