In-line with its core philosophy of smart, seamless and ergonomic design, the Lenovo Vibe X carries the same ethos over to its pre-loaded apps. The Vibe X comes pre-loaded with three very interesting apps that revolve around smarter and more efficient ways to manage user data. These apps add a whole new level of sophistication and practicality to the way data is managed and secured on a smartphone, here;s a closer look at them and the value-add that they bring to the Lenovo Vibe X smartphone.
SECUREit
SECUREit is a free mobile security application based on the Android platform. It has been designed and developed by Personal Cloud Club, Lenovo Group. However, it is far from just any plain-Jane anti-malware app. SECUREit protects the Vibe X against viruses, spam, malware, and also offers services that help you speed up the phone’s performance, periodically. The app claims that the database is regularly updated, and the scan for threats starts with a single touch.
Apart from protecting the phone against viruses, trojans and malware, SECUREit also lets you block SMSes and calls – selective or mass blocking, depending on how you want it deployed at that point of time. This is one good way of blocking spam SMSes.
While the call and SMS blocking is a much welcome feature, SECUREit adds another interesting feature to it: it tracks data usage to keep you within your plan limits. It's a reality that none of our mobile service providers offer unlimited 3G plans, and usage post the free data limit can lead to a massive bill. This app lets you set the billing cycle and data limits. It notifies the user when he or she is about to finish their data limit.
It also features a phone lock security feature which is extremely useful if your device is lost or stolen. Once set up, the anti-theft protection locks the Vibe X in case of a SIM card change, making the device unusable unless you verify your credentials with the correct password. A thief, in most cases barring the ones in which you may have set a rather easy passcode, will not be able to use the device.
If all this was not enough, SECUREit will also help you speed up the Vibe X. True for any smartphone operating system, the cache accumulation tends to hamper performance after a period of time. SECUREit closes redundant background apps and then cleans the cache to speed up individual apps. For system performance, memory is cleaned, redundant or unused tasks are removed, and resources are freed up for your apps.
SHAREit
Sharing data from your phone can be a fairly sluggish task, despite many claims to the contrary. Unless you have a good Wi-Fi connection or are transferring data via a wired interface, Bluetooth is the only other option (which can be fairly moody when it wants to be). This is where the compatibility issues come into picture. Lenovo attempts to solve that with the SHAREit app. This app comes preloaded on the Vibe X, and can also be downloaded on other Android phones via the Google Play Store. Once installed, you can transfer data between devices with this app. The data that can be shared via this app includes photos, music, videos and documents. Interestingly, even contacts can be shared between devices. The app also supports group sharing – up to 5 devices simultaneously.
SYNCit
Apple has the iCloud feature that lets users sync contacts and other data between their iPhones, iPads etc. Lenovo offers the same convenience to those using the Vibe X. At least for messages, contacts and call logs. After signing in and setting up SYNCit, all your messages, contacts and call logs will be saved on the cloud. This app syncs data, periodically. You can also customize the sync settings to your own liking. If you happen to restore the phone to factory settings, or switch to a new device, simply sign in to your SYNCit account and all the data will be retrieved as per the last backup. This app isn’t anything fancy, but the convenience is unmatched.
