HIGHLIGHTS
Lenovo launches a new quad-core powered Android smartphone in India and we get our hands on the device.
While Lenovo primarily focuses on personal computers, it has also ventured into the tablet and smartphone market globally. The Chinese brand just launched its newest member in the Android smartphone family called the Vibe X with the model number S960.
Although a 5-inch device, the smartphone feels light in the hand as it weighs about 121 gms. It is really thin at just 6.9mm and has a nice textured metal back with chrome accents. Up-front we have a 5 inch full HD (1920×1080) IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 which offered some really high brightness levels. A 1.5Ghz quad-core Mediatek processor powers the device with 2GB of RAM. The internal memory is 16GB and surprisingly it does not come with an option for memory expansion. The battery is non-removable and has a capacity of 2000mAH.
For the camera buffs, there is a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP camera in the front which comes with a host of editing options courtesy a customised software feature. The Vibe X runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Lenovo’s own UI layer on top. Considering that the launch price is Rs.25,999, it should give some healthy competition to smartphones in the same price segment.
As far as our opinion goes, we think that the Vibe X is a good looking device. However, we aren’t sure how the quad-core Mediatek processor will affect battery life especially with a 5-inch full HD display also in the mix. Apart from the hardware, the UI layer by Lenovo is very heavy and a number of customizations and features have been added which made the smartphone feel laggy.
