Reliance Jio launched its JioPhone at the company’s 40th Annual General Meeting. Ever since then the latest Jio offering has been in the news. The JioPhone will start pre-bookings from August 24 via various channels. We tell you how you can book one and what all you need in order to get it.
The price of JioPhone:
The JioPhone is essentially free, however, you need to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500. According to Jio, the security deposit of Rs 1,500 can be refunded after 36 months or 3 years by submitting the phone back to the company. The phone comes bundled with offers such as life-long free voice calls, texts and 4G data.
The availability and booking of JioPhone:
The JioPhone’s pre-booking is set to start from August 24, however, certain offline retailers in Delhi NCR region have already started pre-booking the JioPhone. You can learn more about the offline store pre-bookings here. Consumers can book the phone online and offline starting August 24.
To book the JioPhone online, consumers can register here . As soon as the bookings begin, consumers can expect a message or email notifying them of the commencement of bookings. One can also book the phone using the MyJio app on smartphones, starting August 24. In order to get ahold of a JioPhone offline, consumers need to get in touch with a Jio retailer or go to a Jio store. One can also register for pre-bookings of JioPhone via SMS. As per reports, consumers will need a copy of their Aadhaar card to pre-order the device. Only one unit will be allowed per Aadhaar number.
JioPhone delivery date:
There has been no exact confirmation regarding the JioPhone’s delivery date , however, Reliance AGM had only mentioned September as the month of delivery. The company had also said the company aims to deliver 5 million units a week to consumers which might be available on first come first serve pre-booking basis.
The feature and specifications of JioPhone:
Jio announced that it will provide unlimited data (capped at 500MB per day) and unlimited free access to Jio apps on the phone for Rs 153 per month. Users can also stream media from the JioPhone to any TV using a ‘Jio Phone TV-Cable’. For using this service though, users will need to recharge with the Rs 309 per month pack.
The JioPhone in essence, is a feature phone. The phone, however, sports some advanced capabilities such as voice control which enable a user to place calls, surf the web, use Jio apps and more, all along with 4G VoLTE connectivity. The JioPhone features a 2.4-inch QVGA display and an alphanumeric keypad with 4-way navigation toggle keys. The phone also offers support for a microSD card. The phone is preloaded with the company’s apps including Jio TV, Jio Music, Jio Cinema and more. The phone also contains a torch and FM Radio.
