Which smartphone should you buy this Diwali?
While Diwali may be the time for most of us to buy a smartphone, here are the best!
It’s November, and its time for the Diwali buying guides to come out. Smartphone makers have said time and again that Diwali is when Indians buy the most number of smartphones, which is why companies like Apple choose to launch their smartphones in India during this season. But even though it’s spending season, your budget always matters. So, here are some phones that you need to look at, for every budget.
Money no bar
The Samsung Galaxy S6/Note 5 and the iPhone 6S/6S Plus are the ones to go for in this price range, in that order. What you choose depends on your preference of screen size and budget. While neither the Galaxy Note 5, nor the iPhones are particularly inexpensive, if a starting price of 62k is just not your thing, then the Galaxy Note 5 is the phone to go for. In fact, unlike earlier flagships from Samsung, the competition with Apple’s newest iPhones is much closer now, and what matters even more than your budget is your choice of OS. What’ll it be? Android or iOS?
I don’t spend 40k on a phone, but above 30k is fine
If that’s the case, then the Nexus 5X and Moto X Style are the phones that you should be looking at. In fact, while the Nexus 5X won’t suit big screen lovers, the Moto X Style isn’t for compact phone buyers. The two can be used interchangeably in a lot of cases. They offer similar performance and the Moto X’s camera is just slightly better. The Nexus though, provides better battery life than the Moto X Style.
But wait, this is a tricky price segment now. If your budget was below 35k, then the Nexus and Moto X Style are good. If your budget is above 35k though, the Nexus 6P and Apple iPhone 6 comes into play. Apple’s last generation device is still amongst the most powerful phones that you can buy, and the Nexus 6P has been appreciated by many.
Who spends 30k on a phone anymore!
Seriously, the advent of mid-ranged flagships have made it really difficult to recommend the flagship devices, even when they’re good. So, if you follow this philosophy, then here’s what you are looking at.
The OnePlus 2 is of course a choice here, but the newest flagship device from OnePlus is really difficult to get a hold of. So what do you do? There’s this golden coloured smartphone called the Honor 7 by Huawei, lying just around the corner. The phone costs Rs. 22,999, a good 2k lower than the OnePlus 2, but isn’t as powerful as the OnePlus device.
20k is all I could save!
Congratulations my friend. You can buy some of the most value for money smartphones in the market today. Ready? Here it goes.
The Moto X Play is perhaps the most balanced smartphone that we’ve seen in a long long time. At 20k, the 32GB version is a very good buy. In addition, the OnePlus X that was just launched in India, is also a contender, although we’ll confirm that one once we’re done with the review.
If you’re looking for raw power though, with respectable cameras and battery life, and a good display, then the Asus Zenfone 2 (4GB RAM), for Rs. 19,999, is the phone to go for.
My budget is 15k. Period.
In the sub-15k budget, the Asus Zenfone 2 (2GB RAM) is definitely the best phone that you can buy right now. It has respectable cameras on the front and back, while it’s performance is better than all others in this price range. Add to that, a good display and a battery, that has enough juice to get you through about 10 hours. You know it’s a winner.
If you’re looking for a better camera though, and can compromise on the performance, then the Xiaomi Mi 4i is a good phone to go for. It’s sleek, well built and has a killer camera for its price.
They say 10k is enough for a good phone today
Well, you have to compromise a little, but there are some good options indeed. The first phone we’d go for is the Meizu M2 Note. While Meizu is a new entrant in India, it’s phones have been quite impressive. The M2 Note is a well balanced smartphone with a good camera and performance that can rival any of its competitors.
If you’re not sold on that one though, the Lenovo K3 Note is the second best option in the market right now. It’s a little harder to come by though.
I’m buying for my not to tech savvy father, and 7k is all that needs
True. So then you must got for the Meizu M2 smartphone, which just topped our list of budget smartphone to buy. The phone costs Rs. 6,999 and has a 13MP rear camera along with a 5inch 720p display and 2GB of RAM. It runs on the MediaTek MT6735 SoC. There’s also 16GB of storage to boot.
In addition, you can also look at the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, which has the same specs as the Meizu M2.
