Here’s what makes the Honor 9i a truly camera-focused smartphone

Honor has always been about pushing boundaries, especially when it comes to camera technology. The prime example of this was the Honor 6 Plus smartphone that was launched a couple of years ago. The device was amongst the first to offer a dual-camera setup, that too at a time when such a feature was considered extremely niche, even amongst flagship smartphones at the time. Now though, almost all new phones offer a dual camera setup in some form or the other. So in order to stand out from the crowd, the folks at Honor had to think outside the box. The result was the Honor 9i.

Instead of sticking with offering one dual-camera setup. The Honor 9i offers a total of four, two in the front and two at the back. In fact, the phone is the world’s first smartphone to offer four cameras and an 18:9 display aspect ratio. Let’s take a look at what the Honor 9i’s camera has to offer.

Rear camera 

The dual-camera setup at the back if the Honor 9i consists of 16MP and 2MP cameras. The 16MP sensor is main camera that is used to take pictures, while the 2MP sensor is used to add depth data to images. As a result, you will be able to take classy bokeh shots in which the background is blurred.  

The rear camera on the Honor 9i offers a bunch of different modes for you to play around with. With the Aperture mode enabled, you’ll be able to blur the background around your subject. You can also choose aperture sizes ranging from from 0.95 to 16.

The Portrait mode on the phone lets you add beautifying effects to the photos you take. Further, you also get to choose the level of beautification you want in your photo. If you want, you can choose up to level 10 beautification. Besides this, you also get an option to automatically add bokeh effects to the picture.

Aside from this, the Honor 9i also gives you the option to take complete control of the camera and take photos like a pro. The aptly named Pro mode lets you control the camera settings such as aperture, ISO levels and more to let you take pictures that you can really be proud of. 

Front camera

At the front, you get a 13MP + 2MP camera combination, which works in a manner that’s quite similar to the rear camera. So you still get to enjoy all the goodies like bokeh, beauty mode and the lot. The only feature that is missing is the Aperture mode, but the inclusion of Bokeh makes up for it. Once again, you have the option to choose the level of beautification you would want.

In addition to all these features, there is also a special way to get even prettier selfies. This is called Perfect Selfie and in order to access this mode, swipe right from the camera app and select the feature from the menu. Then, you’ll have to take three photos, one from the front, one from the side, and one looking down. This information is then used to gain in idea about the way you look. You also be able to choose the amount of editing you would want on your selfie. This includes adjustments to the size of eyes and even smoothen out the skin. However, do keep in mind that this mode can only be accessed from the front camera.

With so many awesome features. The Honor 9i is definitely a device to consider for those looking for a device that offers impressive quality from both sets of cameras. On top of all this, you also get an 18:9 display aspect ratio that lets you enjoy all the benefits of a big screen device with none of the ergonomic hassles that come with it. So if you are looking for an all round device, you should definitely consider the Honor 9i.
