The Honor View 10’s Kirin 970 SoC sports a dedicated Neural Network Processing Unit and that helps the phone deliver a number of AI-based features

Honor’s new flagship smartphone, the View 10 has a lot of features that should pique the interest of anyone looking for an affordable smartphone that offers top-of-the-line specifications. This includes features such as an 18:9 display aspect ratio, dual-rear cameras and a flagship-grade chipset. However, while all these features are pretty impressive, the highlight of the phone has to be the AI-based features that aim to offer an improves user experience. However, unlike most other smartphones, the phone sports a dedicated chip for AI. Let’s take a quick look at what makes this feature possible and some of the things you can do with it.

At the heart of the Honor View 10 is HiSilicon’s flagship chipset, the Kirin 970 SoC. The new chipset is manufactured using a 10nm process that allows for the integration of 5.5 billion transistors in an area of one centimeter. However, the highlight of the new chip is the dedicated Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU). The company claims that this helps to deliver AI performance that is faster, while using less power. Further, this also helps increase the level of security as learning and computation is done on-device, rather than on the cloud.

Now that you know what makes AI possible on the Honor View 10, how does it help with day-to-day smartphone usage. Well, Honor has chosen to incorporate the AI in various aspects of the smartphone. This range from working silently in the background, to using its prowess front-and-center. Here are a few ways AI has been incorporated into the smartphone.

Intelligent photography

The dual-rear cameras of the Honor View 10 uses the AI for real-time scene and object recognition. By intelligently recognising these details, the phone is able to automatically get the best parameters set of parameters for taking that particular photo.

Real-time multi-language translation

In order to offer faster language translation, Honor worked in together with Microsoft in order to offer AI Accelerated Translation. The translation software is able to work offline and the company claims that with the Kirin 970’s NPU, translation if 500 percent faster than other phones using the same app.

Social Media image Resolution enhancement

Photos posted on social media are usually smaller than the original image. As a result, a lot of details are lost. However, Honor says that the View 10’s AI-based Vision Engine uses image resolution enhancement technology that allows you to zoom into a low quality picture and make it clearer.

Talk easy

The Honor View 10 also uses AI in order to make calls clearer. Through a technology called Easy Talk, the phone is able to make out the difference between your voice, and any other noise in the environment. As a result, the phone is able to make your voice more prominent to anyone on the other end of your call.
