Along with the flagship Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia also launched the Lumia 820 smartphone, which is said to be a mid-range smartphone. We had a chance to play with the device for a while at the event.
The Nokia Lumia 820 is what Nokia likes to call the 'mid-range' smartphone. Though the price may make you give a snide remark in return, the Lumia 820 is the second device out of three that are a part of Nokia's latest Windows 8 Phone device range.
The Lumia 820 has a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Side by side with the big brother, the Lumia 920, there seemed to be a huge difference. However, even as a standalone, this resolution will seem a little less, considering Android phones in this price bracket are now sporting 1280 x 720 pixel resolutions.
The build quality is quite good, and the various colour options are a real interesting proposition for those who want something that isn’t the standard black or white! Apart from that, Nokia says you can change the rear covers with a colour of your choice, and will be sold as separate accessories.
No shortage of power though, since this has a 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB built-in storage, with a memory card slot for storage expansion.
The 8MP camera on the Lumia 820 does not feature the PureView technology though.
Somehow, we think the Lumia 820 should have been priced closer to the HTC Windows Phone 8S, which is retailing around the Rs. 20,000 mark. We will comment on the actual performance after we have compared the two rivals side-by-side. In the meantime, you can check out some pictures of the phone:
There is no doubt that the 4.3-inch display on the Lumia 820 is crisp and text is easily readable. However, the native resolution of the screen is on the lower side, and that isn't ideal in the long run
The phone has good dimensions for single hand usage. The materials used are fairly good quality, with the back panel getting an enamel finish. We checked out the red and yellow ones, and both look fairly appealing.
The 8MP camera on the 820 is not the PureView one, but we still have fairly high hopes of it being a good performer
As we had mentioned earlier, the display is making up for the lower res with some impressive colour handling. And yes, the latest Windows Phone OS is on board.
