First impressions: Acer Liquid Jade & Liquid E700 smartphones
HIGHLIGHTS

Acer finally returned to the Indian smartphone market with the launch of two smartphones yesterday. Here is a quick first look at both of them

Yesterday, we saw Acer launch two Android smartphones in India, the Liquid Jade and the Liquid E700, both of which are devices that fall in the mid-range segment. These smartphones were first seen at Computex 2014 and now will be available in India on Snapdeal from today.

The Liquid Jade is the more expensive device out of the two and weighs just 110 gms. It runs on a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and 1GB of RAM, sports 8GB expandable memory, a 5-inch 720p display, DTS Sound, 13MP rear and 2MP front cameras, a 2100mAH battery and runs on Android 4.4.2. The smartphone is definitely one of the lightest handsets that we have seen, but it comes with what seems like an outdated design with a glossy plastic back that may not appeal to everybody. It also reminded us of the Lenovo Vibe X. The display is vibrant although it is not the best displays that we have seen. Acer has used FloatUI, a custom software, on the smartphone and the UI appears fluid and stable. Overall, the Jade looks decent, but doesn't offer anything fresh apart from the lightweight design.

The E700 is the less expensive option but features better specs including a 5-inch 720p display, a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB expandable memory, 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera with a front LED flash, DTS Sound, triple-SIM card slots, and a massive 3500mAH battery that's supposed to give about two and a half days of backup. The E700 has a pretty standard design but doesn't feel all that heavy even with the large battery. The back is plastic with a matte finish and offers a better grip when compared to the Jade. Underneath the rear camera there is a customizable button just like the one we have seen on a number of LG smartphones.
