First impressions: Oppo Find 7
HIGHLIGHTS

The first smartphone with a 2K display has arrived in India as Oppo Find 7 smartphone was announced yesterday. We take a look at the latest beast offered by the Chinese company.

As 2K displays find their way to feature on smartphones, Oppo has made its mark by officially announcing the Find 7 smartphone in India at a price tag of Rs. 37,990 which actually sounds pretty good. The smartphone is the first ever smartphone equipped with 2K display to arrive in India, and while Oppo has beaten LG in the launch race, we still have doubts about the company’s sales strategy.

The design and build of the Find 7 isnt something that would take your breath away, but it definitely suffices the price that it is offered at. The front is entirely covered by Gorilla Glass 3 and the super crisp 5.5 inch 2k display sits underneath. The bezels are fairly slim and the three capacitive Android keys are below the display. Right at the bottom of the front panel, you will find a curve that lights up when you get a notification, just like the old Sony Xperia smartphones.

The back is made out of plastic and has a textured finish which is different on black and white versions of the smartphone. The back also houses the 13MP camera with a dual LED flash, and the loudspeaker. There is a metal frame between the glass panel and the plastic back which houses the 3.5mm audio jack on the top, the power/lock key on the left side, the volume control keys on the right and the microUSB port at the bottom.

Probably the only let-down was that the smartphone runs on Android 4.3 with Oppo's very own ColorOS UI. The UI is still not perfectly smooth since we last saw it on the N1 and due to the heavy customizations, it feels a bit clunky. The camera app works quite well and turning on the UHD mode allows you to take pictures at a resolution of 50MP. Pictures come out quite sharp although the white balance seemed to be more towards the warm tones. But overall, we had no complaints regarding the camera.

The handset is very well made and there are only a few minor issues here and there which can be excused considering Oppo hasn’t priced the handset for a bomb. It will be interesting to see how much of an effort will Oppo make to sell the Find 7 as it still hasn’t gained a substantial momentum in the Indian market.
