HIGHLIGHTS

Asus has officially entered the Indian smartphone market and has launched the Zenfone series of smartphones. Here is a first look at the most affordable smartphone of the lot, the Zenfone 4

Affordable smartphones have been pouring in and it seems that there is no end to it. Just yesterday we saw Asus bringing in its new Zenfone smartphones to India. While we expected a price range of Rs. 10,000 to 18,000, the Taiwanese brand amazed us by announcing the Zenfone 4 at Rs. 5,999, the Zenfone 5 at Rs. 9,999 and the Zenfone 6 at Rs. 16,999.

The Zenfone 4 is the most affordable smartphone and it gives the Moto E and other brands like Micromax and Xolo a run for their money. The Zenfone 4 offers a very bold and pleasant looking design and looks exactly like its elder brothers. It has a nice metal accent below the display and a soft plastic matte finish at the back and at this price it is one of the few smartphones that offers an excellent build quality.

The display is a 4-inch 800×480 pixel TFT panel with Gorilla Glass 3 and other features of the smartphone include a 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage which is expandable via a microSD card, a 5MP rear and a VGA front camera, dual-SIM card slots, Android 4.3 (Upgradable to KitKat) with Zen UI on top.

The smartphone fits perfectly well in the hand and the Zen UI gives a fresh take on Android as we had mentioned in our review of the Zenfone 5. The affordable smartphone will be available in four colour options including Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, Sky Blue and Solar Yellow and quite frankly all the colours look really attractive.

The Zenfone 4 is a valiant effort from Asus and highlights a very impressive pricing strategy.
