Check out these smartphones that come loaded with an infrared blaster port which can use to control your television sets and other entertainment devices.

Smartphones are getting smarter today and while they offer a lot of functionality they will soon be controlling a lot more than we can imagine. Apple had shown off its concept of controlling your household appliances and lighting with the Home Kit which will be coming in the near future.

You can however get a taste of this as a number of smartphone makers have started launching devices with Infrared ports that can control your televisions, set-top boxes, and other entertainment devices that use an IR based remote control.

Here are some smartphones available in the Indian market that you can use to control your TV.

LG

LG offers an IR blaster port on some of its latest high-end smartphones including the G2, G2 Pro, G3 and the G-Flex. Loaded with the Quick Remote app, these smartphones let you control a number TV sets and also other devices like audio players, set-top boxes, air conditioners and so on.

Samsung

Just like LG, Samsung offers a large variety of devices with an IR port including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note III, Galaxy Note III Neo and Galaxy Mega 6.3. All of the mentioned smartphones are loaded with an IR port and most of these devices have an inbuilt remote control app with which you can easily configure and control your television sets.

HTC

Only the HTC One (M7), One Max and the One (M8) have an infrared port and when combined with the pre-installed app called TV, you can easily configure your television and start controlling it seamlessly.

One of the earliest uses of infrared ports on a smartphone was for data transfer and for a long time it was regarded as a slow and cumbersome technology. With the re-introduction of the IR blaster port, it seems that we might see it coming back to the smartphone world. None of the major smartphone platforms have official support for device control via IR blaster port, but it is definitely an interesting feature to have.
