Things to look out for when buying a laptop to enjoy better after-sales service

Updated on 01-Jul-2019

When we buy a laptop, there are a bunch of things we consider, such as the size of the screen, its specification, and its price. However, we tend to gloss over the after-sales service offered by that particular brand. No matter how good your laptop is, a bad after-sales service can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Conversely, a good after-sales service can leave a positive impression of the brand in general.

If you already have experienced services of laptop, you can help others make the right call by filling out this survey. If you are planning to buy a new device, here are some of the things you need to look out for in order to get better after-sales service.

Be on the lookout for extended warranty

You never know when disaster may strike and you damage your laptop. As such, it’s better to have extended warranty in order to ensure that your device can be repaired easily, without creating a dent on your wallet.

Check servicing locations in your area

Ideally, you should try to purchase a laptop with a service centre that is close to where you live. In case something happens, you can quickly and easily carry your laptop to the centre without lugging it to another corner of the city.

Try Social Media for help

In case you are confused about where the nearest after sales service location is, don’t be afraid to get in touch with the brand on social media platforms like Twitter. Most brands are quite active over there and should be able to help you out.

Modularity of the components

Some laptops have modular components, which can be easily replaced. This means that repairing them can be faster and more affordable as compared to laptops that have most of the replaceable components soldered to the board.

Software tools

Many brands also offer a suite of software tools that can help the user diagnose the problem without the need to go to a service centre. So keep an eye out for the quality of the software on offer. Of course, power users may not need such software, but it’s still a good option to have.

Have you ever had to take your laptop to a service centre for service or repair? How good or bad was the service? We want to know. Please take a few minutes and fill out the Digit Laptop Survey. Your feedback will help others make a smarter choice and may also let brands know how good (or bad) the after sales customer service is. You can fill the survey here.
