In my previous HP Victus 16 review regarding its performance, I mentioned that the laptop is one of the best mid-range gaming laptops. However, as everyone knows, the Victus range of gaming laptops come in a lot of variants. All HP Victus 16 laptop variants come in an almost similar chassis and the only physical difference between them is in terms of internal components like CPU, GPU and RAM.
The HP Victus 16 we’re taking a look at today comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU and an AMD Radeon 5500M GPU. The laptop, as of writing this article, costs just around Rs 57,000 and technically is an All-AMD machine, without the AMD-advantage tech. However, that does not matter because this HP Victus 16 gaming laptop has a high value-for-money quotient. In this HP Victus 16 review, we will take a look at how well the budget All-AMD gaming laptop performs on its own and with respect to the competition. Here’s everything you need to know.

The HP Victus 16 we’re taking a look at today comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H Hexa-core Accelerated Processing Unit or APU. The APU houses a 6-core processor as well as a 7-core Radeon Graphics chip. The AMD processor belongs to the “H” series of AMD Ryzen CPUs meant for high-performance use. Naturally, it found its place in an entry-level gaming laptop.
Over the years, AMD has established its dominance in the lower and mid-range market segments. And it’s not hard to see why. In terms of synthetic benchmarks, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H performs very well. In the Cinebench benchmarks, the CPU chip stands toe to toe with the Intel 11th Gen Core i5-11400H, another six-core chip found in laptops above Rs 75-80k.
Naturally, Intel beats AMD in single-core performance, but Ryzen takes the upper spot when it comes to multi-core performance. In Cinebench R20, the Intel chip comes out on top by a rough margin of 300 points as well. Right from this picture, we can see that the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H is geared to support multi-threaded workloads like video editing or rendering a huge AAA open-world game relatively better than the Intel chip. But there won’t be a huge difference in real-world performance between these processors.
PC Mark 10 is another benchmark we tested which stimulates real-world scenarios and gives each laptop a score. The HP Victus 16 we’re talking about received a score of 6867. Meanwhile, the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 featuring an Intel Core i5-11400H CPU and an Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU scored 6341. Indicating a clear advantage for the AMD Ryzen chip in terms of productivity.
Last, let's talk about the GPU benchmarks. Now, the Radeon RX 5500M (not to be confused with the 7-core Radeon chip on the APU die) is a discreet GPU we don’t often see in budget laptops. More often than not the budget and the mid-range laptops are littered with a crop of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPUs. So we have an idea of what the GTX 1650 is capable of. As a result, I am using it as a reference point to give you an idea of how the RX 5500M performs. Thankfully, we have a Lenovo laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, GTX 1650 and 8GB DDR4 RAM to make the comparison as fair as possible.
Starting off with 3d Mark’s TimeSpy, we can see that the HP Victus 16 (Ryzen 5600H + Radeon RX 5500M) easily beats the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (Ryzen 5600H + GTX 1650). In 3d Mark’s FireStrike benchmark as well, the RX 5500M appears close in performance to another HP Victus 16 gaming laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 58000 and an Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU.
So the HP Victus 16 gaming laptop (Ryzen 5600H + Radeon RX 5500M) packs a surprising punch for an entry-level machine, at least in terms of synthetic benchmarks.
The HP Victus 16 features a 16.1-inch display panel featuring a 16:9 aspect ratio. The laptop has a 1080p display with the support of a 60Hz maximum refresh rate. The important thing to note here is that the Radeon RX 5500M graphics chip onboard is designed to deliver around 60FPS in most cases. From that perspective, a low refresh rate display makes sense.
Furthermore, in our display testing, we found that the entry-level HP Victus 16 has a peak brightness of 247 nits which is kind of expected in this price range. The laptop’s screen also covers around 64% sRGB, 49% DCI-P3, and 49% Adobe RGB colour spectrum.
During the colour checker analysis, which indicates a screen’s colour accuracy, we found that the entry-level HP Victus 16 with a 1080p display is not colour accurate. Considering that the laptop target the budget gaming segment, the low colour accuracy is not a big issue.
The pairing of an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and the Radeon RX 5500M proves to be really good for the HP Victus 16 gaming laptop. Considering the fact that the device comes with only a 60Hz refresh rate screen, we can easily understand that this particular HP Victus 16 is designed to play games at low to medium settings at 1920 X 1080 pixel resolution.
We tested a bunch of AAA games including a racing game, an action-adventure title like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, a First Person Shooter like Metro Exodus and several others. Here’s how the laptop performed in all these games.
To give you a proper reference, we also compared the HP Victus 16 with the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and another HP Victus 16 powered by a Ryzen 7 5800H and an RTX 3050 GPU. Here are the results.
You can see that the HP Victus 16 performs better than the Lenovo IdeaPad gaming by a good margin.
The HP Victus 16 powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and a Radeon RX 5500M GPU is a surprisingly powerful entry-level laptop. With a price tag of under Rs 60,000, the HP Victus 16 all-AMD laptop gives a touch combination to its counterpart powered by an entry-level Nvidia GPU like a GTX 1650.
I highly recommend this device and if you’re in the market looking for a budget gaming machine then do not sleep on the HP Victus 16 all-AMD gaming laptop.
