HP goes big on AI in 2025 with new OMEN gaming laptops

HP has revealed its latest gaming innovations at the annual HP Amplify Conference in Nashville on March 18, 2025, showcasing a lineup of gaming hardware powered by AI. The new OMEN gaming laptops and technologies aims to change how gamers can optimise their gaming experience, with one-click personalisation and high-performance hardware designed for both casual and competitive players.

But this time, HP wants to offer something more than just gaming hardware. HP is trying to bring AI to enhance gaming optimisation, two gaming laptops (of course) and a set of headphones which can last upto 200 hours.

OMEN 16 Slim and OMEN Transcend 14

The OMEN 16 Slim Gaming Laptop stands as the flagship hardware announcement, featuring a chassis that is 16% thinner than the standard OMEN 16 model. With a thickness ranging from 19.9 mm at the front to 22.7 mm at its thickest point, the laptop maintains impressive power while achieving a more portable form factor that weighs approximately 5.35 pounds. This design philosophy reflects HP’s understanding that modern gamers want powerful systems that can be easily transported between locations.

Under the hood, the OMEN 16 Slim comes with impressive specifications and options, including an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor from the new Arrow Lake family and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. Memory options include 16, 24, or 32 GB of DDR5 5600 RAM, paired with either 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. The laptop features a 16-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, available in resolution options of 1920×1200 or 2560×1600. The higher resolution option supports refresh rates up to 250 Hz, while the 1200p version offers either 144 Hz or 165 Hz options.

For connectivity, the OMEN 16 Slim includes a USB C port, three USB Type-A ports (one at 10 Gbps, two at 5 Gbps), an Ethernet jack, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and HDMI 2.1. Wireless options include either Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 6, though notably not the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. The placement of ports primarily at the rear of the device contributes to its sleek side profile, a design choice that has become increasingly popular among slimmer gaming laptops.

The refreshed OMEN Transcend 14, meanwhile, offers a more compact alternative for gamers seeking extreme portability without sacrificing too much performance. Despite its smaller 14-inch form factor, it delivers impressive power with support for the same CPU and GPU options as its larger sibling, bringing 25% more power than its predecessor. The Transcend 14’s standout feature is its OLED display running at 120 Hz, a nice-to-have upgrade over IPS LCD displays you generally get in gaming laptops.

OMEN AI might change how you optimise performance

OMEN AI

Apart from these laptops, HP has revealed OMEN AI, a gaming software that might change how gamers optimise their systems. According to HP, 85% of gamers prioritise high frames per second (FPS), yet traditionally have had to spend countless hours searching forums and using trial and error methods to achieve optimal performance. OMEN AI addresses this pain point by offering a one-click solution tailored to each game and individual system configuration. This system recommends optimal operating system settings, hardware configurations, and in-game settings based on the unique specifications of each user’s device and the particular game being played.

Rather than providing static recommendations, the system continually adjusts and improves settings over time as it learns from user behaviour and game performance. This means that the longer a user plays with OMEN AI enabled, the more refined and personalised the optimisation becomes. The technology is available through the OMEN Gaming Hub and is compatible with all HP gaming and consumer PCs, making it accessible to a wide range of users regardless of their specific hardware configuration.

A gaming headset that lasts 200 hours

Complementing the new OMEN laptops, HP has also launched the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless Gaming Headset, which delivers battery life of up to 120 hours in 2.4 GHz wireless mode and an impressive 200 hours when using Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

Beyond its battery performance, the HyperX Cloud III S introduces an innovative dual microphone system. While the primary boom microphone delivers clear voice communication during intensive gaming sessions, it can be removed to reveal a secondary omnidirectional microphone hidden beneath. This design allows the headset to function as both a dedicated gaming headset and as a pair of everyday headphones for music listening or casual calls, eliminating the need for multiple audio devices.

This integration between OMEN laptops and HyperX peripherals exemplifies HP’s holistic approach to gaming, creating an ecosystem where various products work together seamlessly. For gamers invested in the HP ecosystem, this interoperability provides added convenience and potentially enhanced functionality compared to mixing and matching components from different manufacturers.
