HP has launched the new TouchSmart 14 Ultrabook in India. We had a chance to check out the device at the launch event.
HP has launched the latest addition to its ultrabook line-up in India, the ENVY TouchSmart 14 Ultrabook. This machine is a part of the slew of launches by the company, to tap the Windows PC market.
The updated ultrabook builds on the premium feel and experience that the predecessor offered, but the fact that HP has bumped up the specs on the machines makes it an even better bet. The unit on demo at the event had an Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB of RAM. The 14-inch display now get the boost from discrete Nvidia graphics. HP claims that this ultrabook can now offer up to 9 hours of battery life. We had a chance to use the product for a while at the event, and here are our initial impressions.
– This ultrabook look nothing like the predecessor. Gone is the combination of black and silver, and in comes the champagne gold and grey finish.
– The lid gets the matte grey finish, in a design and finish that looks somewhat like the return of the old design that HP used on some business machines some years back, as well as reminiscent of the lid design of some Mini series netbooks.
– Very happy to report that the same keyboard from the ENVY dv6 range has been carried forward as is, and that means the typing experience will be excellent.
– The ENVY TouchSmart 4 has a generous sized touchpad, which will make multi-touch gestures a breeze to use. The right and left click keys are integrated though, which is a bit of a disappointment.
– The 14-inch screen is full multi-touch, and is fairly bright. We couldn’t test the readability aspect in detail, which we will do when we test the product.
– HP has bumped up the specs on the ultrabook, in relation to the predecessor, which ran on an Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and integrated graphics. The newer version, meanwhile, gets an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and dedicated Nvidia graphics.
HP has priced this ultrabook at Rs 64,990.
This is the new HP ENVY TouchSmart 14 ultrabook, and it looks excellent, yet understated from the outset.
Huge touchpad, with the gold coloured finish. The only niggle is the integrated right and left click keys can be a little annoying to use.
The keyboard has been carried forward as is from the current generation of HP ultrabooks, and is one of the better ones out there.
The left side spine gets two USB ports, a memory card reader and the HDMI out.
The lid gets a matte finish, with a look reminiscent of some earlier generation HP business notebooks!
The power key on one side of the keyboard deck. The hinge design is quite good, and fairly tight as well.
The right spine gets two more USB ports– along with the Ethernet port and the 3-5mm jack.
With the update, HP has bumped up the specs, which will result directly in improving over the very good performance of the predecessor.
