Your favourite shows are back this May on Netflix
Check out everything new and old coming to the streaming platform this month.
May is a big month for Netflix and us binge watchers, as the streaming giant looks to recover from a rather dull Q1 2017. Netflix subscriptions or piracy, one of the two is set to balloon with the hot line-up of returning shows, stand-up performances and new movies slated for this month. So without further ado, let’s list out the good stuff coming to the platform in May.
Sense8: Season 2 – May 5
Although the Christmas Special of Sense 8 wasn’t as mind blowing as we had come to expect from the show, the wait for season 2 of the series is finally over (considering the first season aired back in 2015). 10 new episodes of Sense8 will arrive on Netflix on May 5. Interestingly enough, the first two episodes of the new season have already been aired for select audiences at the Series Mania festival in Paris and Chicago's Music Box Theatre. Now, don’t go looking for them on torrents!
Master of None: Season 2 – May 12
Netflix Original, Master of None, received rave reviews for its first season back in 2015. The show starring Aziz Ansari couples the concept of romance in the modern era, along with the side themes of race and equality. The Emmy award winning comedy now returns for a second season on May 12.
Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive – May 16
Who doesn’t go into splits watching Tracy Morgan spin wild tales from his life on stage? Shot at New Jersey’s landmark Count Basie Theatre, Staying Alive features Morgan hilariously exploring the themes of life and death. Morgan recovered from a near death experience in 2014, and in this stand-up special, he looks to add some humour to this serious situation.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 3 – May 19
Kimmy and her eclectic entourage of friends are back for a third season of this super funny show created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. In season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Kimmy decides to go to college and get a divorce. Lilian is trying to overcome a bad breakup, and Tituss…well…you’ll have to wait till May 19 to find out what he’s up to.
War Machine – May 26
A Netflix original film that features Brad Pitt and Ben Kingsley is definitely up our alley. At the story's core is Brad Pitt's sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist's no-holds-barred exposé. War Machine releases on Netflix on May 26.
Bloodline: Season 3 – May 26
Because we still need soap operas in our lives. Netflix’s Bloodline, surprisingly, has a big audience in India, or so the company has told us on several occasions. This is the only reason this test-of-patience show has made it to this list. A twisted family drama, Bloodline has managed to get a third season on the platform and it is the final season on the series (thankfully). Will the Rayburns let their buried secrets be found? Find out on May 26
House of Cards: Season 5 – May 30
At last My love has come along My lonely days are over And life is like a song oh yeah! Okay, we got a little carried away, but who wouldn’t for the love of Kevin Spacey! The granddaddy of all Netflix originals – House of Cards, is back for its fifth season and we cannot wait to see President Frank Underwood reign some terror on his subordinates. Rumour has it that we might be bidding farewell to some beloved characters on the show this season. All we hope for is some classic Spacey magic, supported by some kickass acting by Robin Wright.
