1.Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is Samsung’s venture into the budget tablet category. The tablet has been available for quite some time now. Priced at Rs. 15,990, the Tab 2 gives users a complete Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience. The interface is skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and also gives you access to Samsung apps apart from the apps available on the Google Play store. If you have used any Samsung smartphone such as the S II, S III or the Galaxy Grand, you will feel right at home with the UI. Put simply, it’s a Samsung smartphone interface on a 7-inch display. The tablet can be connected to your Mac or PC via Samsung’s Kies desktop application.
The Tab 2 has the ability to house a SIM card, which gives it the ability not only to make calls but also to use 3G data connectivity. The rear-facing camera is one of the better cameras available on a tablet in its price range. Playing games, watching videos and browsing the Internet were all a treat on the tablet. If Rs. 15,999 is a bit much for you and you can do without the 3G and calling capabilities, you can consider the Wi-Fi only version of the Tab 2, the P311. It is priced at Rs. 10,499.
2.Asus FonePad
The Asus FonePad is a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. The FonePad is priced at Rs. 15,999 and there is no budget Wi-Fi only version available as there is for the Tab 2. The unique thing about the FonePad is that it is powered by the Intel Atom Z2420 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz along with 1GB of RAM. This is the same chipset we have seen on the Xolo X500.
The interface of the tab is really smooth and the skin overlaying Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is something to look out for. A cool feature of the tablet is that it has what Asus calls Floating Apps. These are apps that appear as small windows on the display. The only downside here is that if you want to access content in the background, you will have to close or reposition the floating app. If you have used the Asus Transformer Prime or the Asus PadFone, you will feel right at home with the UI.
3.Nexus 7
If you want a tablet that will receive the latest Android update on day one, and deliver the most vanilla Android experience possible, then the Nexus 7 is the tablet for you. Sure, at Rs. 15,999 you get the 16GB Wi-Fi only version and if you want the 3G capable Nexus 7, you will gave to increase your budget all the way till 21,999 (for the 32GB 3G Wi-Fi version). But for the price what you get is a very smooth performing Android tablet that you will fall in love with almost instantly.
The Tegra 3 processor along with the IPS display makes for very comfortable multimedia consumption, gaming and browsing the Internet, multitasking and reading books on the tablet. The Nexus 7’s 7-inch form factor is comfortable to use as well.
4.iberry Auxus CoreX2 3G
The best thing about the iberry Auxus CoreX2 3G is its display. For the price you pay, you get an IPS display with the same resolution as the Nexus 7. The CoreX2 3G also has the ability to house a SIM card slot for 3G data as well as calls. The downside is that the onboard speaker is underwhelming.
It also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. Overall, at its price, the Auxus CoreX2 3G delivers solid performance, a great feature-set, and good build quality. For Rs. 10,990 the Auxus CoreX2 3G can rank high on your consideration list.
5.WickedLeak Wammy Magnus
We can consider this to be the underdog of the lot. WickedLeak isn’t really a well-established brand but in the past they have impressed us with some of their products. Its Wammy Magnus tablet is also the only 10-inch tablet on our list. The tablet boasts of some outrageous specifications.
The Wammy Magnus has a 10.1-inch touch screen IPS display with a 1280×800 pixels resolution. A 1.5GHz quad-core processor and SGX544 @8 ‘cores’ GPU, along with 2GB of RAM power the device. It has built-in storage of 16GB expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card. WickedLeak claims that the Wammy Magnus supports videos up to 4k resolution (Ultra HD 4096×2160 pixel video decoding). The tablet also has an 8000mAh battery, which the company claims will last for about 6 to 7 hours. With the power under the hood, the Magnus would be an ideal choice for those looking for a tablet with the ability to multitask.
