The April Binge Guide: What to stream on Amazon Prime and Netflix this month
We put together a list of movies, returning seasons and stand-up shows you can catch on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video this April. Take a peek
While March had a hot line-up of streaming content on Netflix and Amazon Prime, April has been somewhat of a disappointment. Despite the minimal (read uninteresting) original content addition from both streaming services this month, we managed to put together a list of movies, returning seasons and stand-up shows you can catch this month. Here’s your April Binge Guide.
American Playboy
The best thing to happen this April is Amazon’s docu-drama series on the life and times of the original Playboy, Hugh Hefner. A cool blend of reality and drama, American Playboy is a bold and sexy biopic of the ultimate player of the century (yes, he is 90 years old now). While you can read our initial review of the series here, this one is a must watch and that’s why it features on the top of this month’s binge list.
Platform: Amazon Prime Video
IMDB Rating: 7.7
Sandy Wexler
You can now watch this Netflix original feature film starring Adam Sandler on the platform, but we don’t promise many (or any) laughs. Sandy Wexler is Sandler’s way of paying homage to Hollywood agent Sandy Wernick, who also happens to be Sandler’s agent. The story of a nasal-toned compulsive liar who is no more than a bottom fish in the entertainment industry was supposed to be funny, but Sandler’s natural comic charm is lost in this one. Nevertheless, if you want to see a bunch of celebrities, including Chris Rock, Vanilla Ice, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and more, fondly roast a caring but amateurish, bordering on clumsy Hollywood agent, then you can give this one a watch.
Platform: Netflix
IMDB Rating: 5.1
Chewing Gum: Season 2
The British sitcom returns in its second avatar to Netflix this month. Writer, actor and show creator Michaela Coel is back as the sex-obsessed Tracey and the series further explores her adventures. Season 2 (6 episodes) of the show is now ready to stream on the platform and if you haven’t seen the first season of this hilarious series, there’s no better time than the present to start your binge-watching session.
Platform: Netflix
IMDB Rating: 7.7
The Discovery
This one is for all you sci-fi fans. What happens when you die? Does afterlife exist? Robert Redford and Jason Segel lend the much needed star cast to this Netflix original movie. Watch and discover the consequences of tapping into life beyond death.
Platform: Netflix
IMDB Rating: 6.4
The Ghazi Attack
While most of you must have caught this Bollywood flick in theatres, the untold India-Pak war story is now available on Amazon’s streaming service. Yes, the special effects in the movie might not be at par with what Hollywood has to offer, but, the story of the film will take your attention off of them. So if you are feeling patriotic this month, give this one a watch.
Platform: Amazon Prime Video
IMDB Rating: 8.1
You Are Wanted
What will Lukas Franke do when his personal data, web and social media profiles get hacked and he gets accused of being involved in eco-terrorism? Naturally, he will try and figure out who’s behind the attacks (just like Sandra Bullok did in The Net). Season 1 of the series in now available for streaming online, with six 45 minute episodes.
Platform: Amazon Prime Video
IMDB rating: 6.1
Louis C.K. 2017
Famous stand-up comic Louis C.K. muses on religion, eternal love, giving dogs drugs, email fights, teachers, and more in a live performance from Washington D.C.
Platform: Netflix
IMDB Rating: 7.6
GirlBoss
She went from rags to riches selling vintage clothing on eBay. GirlBoss traces the true Cinderella story of Sophia Amoruso who went from total hipster to multi-millionaire thanks to a wonderful thing called the internet.
Platform: Netflix
Premiere Date: April 21
