Of guns and bombs: Breaking down Netflix’s explosive new Punisher trailer
The crime fighting ex Marine is out for revenge and he's completely locked and loaded.
"All the things that I done… Memories. They never hurt me. But the past is more than memories… It's the devil you sold your soul to. He's coming. He's coming to collect." – The Punisher
Crash! Booom! Bang! Netflix has finally released the first official trailer for Marvel’s The Punisher
Frank Castle, the soldier, the vigilante, the family man, The Punisher, is back for his own Netflix-Marvel series and we finally have an official tralier giving us our first good look at the tragedy-torn Castle and his quest for vendetta.
Castle first appeared in Marvel’s Daredevil and the new standalone series will focus on his life before he became The Punisher. The new trailer shows Castle experiencing flashbacks of his happy family life. We see a content guitar-playing family man with his son Frank Castle Jr and wife Maria.
Things go dark as Castle Sr witnesses his wife being shot in the head right before his eyes! As per the comic books, Maria and her kids were murdered for being witness to a gangland execution in New York’s Central Park. This forces Frank to take on the crime-fighting role of The Punisher. Scenes from the action-packed trailer show multiple gun battles, including one that happens completely in the dark, with only gunshots illuminating the surroundings. The entire trailer is cut on a very apt Metallica track called One, a song about a World War 1 soldier in constant pain.
There are multiple throwbacks to the comic books, including Frank’s famous White Skull-painted ensemble, scenes from his time in the war, Castle’s longtime weapon-building ally Microchip, his arch-rival Jigsaw (Billy Russo) and then some. Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) from Daredevil also appears in the trailer and seems to be helping Castle fight his family's killers.
All in all, The Punisher trailer looks pretty darn exciting and we hope the series lives up to its promise. There’s still no release date for the The Punisher, although Netflix has confirmed it will hit the platform sometime this year. Watch the trailer below.
