The Toyota Yaris is still a few weeks away from launch, but has generated a fair amount of interest among car buyers in the country. The latest C-segment sedan comes to India with only one engine option, and a number of segment-first features in its top trim. Prices of the Toyota Yaris have been announced, and depending on the amount of equipment you would want in your car, you'll be spending anywhere between Rs. 8.75 lac and Rs. 14.07 lac for the new Toyota Yaris. With a price range spanning between almost Rs. 5.5 lac across a total of four trims, we take a look at how these trims stack up in terms of the features on offer in each trim, what you would get and subsequently miss out on, in each.
Powertrain and chassis
Before we begin, it is important to note that the Yaris will presently be available with only one powertrain option. The 'baby Corolla Altis', as it is being referred to in a lot of cases, is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is mated to either 6-speed manual or 7-speed CVT automatic gearboxes. The engine produces 106bhp and 140Nm torque, and fuel efficiency is certified at 17.1kmpl for MT variants, while AT variants are rated at 17.8kmpl. The Yaris gets a 42-litre fuel tank, front MacPherson strut suspension with stabiliser, and rear torsion beam. All variants get front disc brakes and 15-inch wheels, with turning radius marked at 5.1m
In terms of the chassis, the Yaris measures 4.4 metres in length, with 2,550mm wheelbase and approximately 1.5 ton body weight. The boot space is marked at 476 litres.
Base trim: Toyota Yaris J

The base trim of the Toyota Yaris gets rear drum brakes, and instead of alloys, gets steel wheels with wheel caps. In terms of body weight, it weighs 1,090kg, which is 45 kilos lesser than the top-trim Yaris.
On the exterior, the base variant gets projector headlamps, and the body colour package, with body-coloured door handles and outside mirrors. The shark fin antenna is also retained. Inside, it gets the two-tone interior upholstery with Toyota's 'Waterfall Design' instrument panel. It gets the basic, non-touch infotainment system, with a CD player, AM/FM radio, aux port and Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree music playback and phone calls. It also gets four speakers, and a monochrome MID in the instrument cluster with Eco Indicator. The basic 'J' variant only gets manual air conditioning and a single interior light to the front, but does get a cooled glove box.
In terms of convenience features, the base variant gets manual driver seat height adjustment, along with heat-absorbing, IR-repelling windshield. It also gets 60:40 split folding rear seats, keyless entry (but no push start button), tilt-adjustable steering wheel, front and rear power windows and electronically adjustable ORVMs. It also gets electric power steering and rear armrest with cup holders.
In terms of safety, the Toyota Yaris J gets a total of seven airbags, which is common to all variants. These airbags include driver and passenger airbags, two curtain, two front sides and one driver knee. It also gets ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, which are also common to all variants. Central locking and engine immobilizer are also included, which, again, are common to all the variants.
Mid trim: Toyota Yaris G

Along with everything available on the Yaris J, the G trim gets ORVM-mounted indicators and a chrome front grille to the exterior.

Furthermore, it gets a 4.2-inch colour TFT MID display in the instrument cluster, fully automatic climate control unit with temperature control and rear reading lamp.
It also gets the unique, roof-mounted AC vents with ambient LED lighting, and acoustic and vibration control glass. The Yaris G also gets smart, keyless entry and a push-start button, steering-mounted audio, telephone and MID controls, and electronically folding ORVMs.
Safety-wise, the extra features include two rear parking sensors, front- and rear-fog lamps with rear defogger, and speed-sensing automatic door locking and impact-sensing auto unlock.
Upper-mid trim: Toyota Yaris V
Price: Rs. 11,70,000 (MT); Rs. 12,90,000 (AT)
The Toyota Yaris V gets all of the G trim's features, and is the first of the four trims to get both front and rear disc brakes, as well as alloy wheels. The 15-inch wheel size remains the same, with Toyota recommending 185/60 section tyre size.
On the outside, the Yaris' projector headlamps get LED guide lines, as well as rear LED combination lights with guide lines. Inside, it shares most features with the G trim, but gets six speakers instead of four.
Convenience-wise, the Yaris V gets cruise control and rain-sensing wipers, along with all the features of the G trim. In terms of safety features, it gets front parking sensors, and four rear parking sensors instead of two. It also gets a reverse camera with automatic, follow-me-home headlamps.

The fully equipped trim of the Toyota Yaris is the heaviest of the four trims, and weighs 1,135 kilos. It is the only variant to get LED DRLs and chrome door handles, marking these two elements as the only two changes from the V trim.
Inside, the infotainment system remains the same, but gets additional support for SD card input and Wi-Fi hotspots. It is also the only trim that gets integrated navigation with onboard maps via SD card, and support air-based gesture waves for audio controls. It also gets more premium interiors, replacing fabric with a mix of genuine and synthetic leather for seats and door inserts.
In terms of comfort and convenience, it gets an eight-way power adjustable front seat. The CVT variant of the Yaris VX gets paddle shifters, and for comfort, also gets a segment-first rear sun shade.
Where the Yaris VX truly makes a difference is in safety. The list of safety features on board the Toyota Yaris VX include hill start assist, vehicle stability control and tyre pressure monitor, along with all the rest of the safety features available in the lower trims of the Yaris.
