Micromax Canvas Tab P666 Android Tablet: First impressions
Micromax just announced a partnership with Intel and has announced the Canvas Tab P666, an 8-inch tablet running on an Intel Clover Trail processor
Micromax has joined the Intel bandwagon with the launch of Canvas Tab P666 in India. The tablet supports 3G SIM, runs Android KitKat and is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Processor Z2520 along with 1GB of RAM. It also features an 8-inch IPS display with 1280×800 pixels resolution, a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera, 8GB expandable storage and a 4,400mAH battery.
The tablet has a very flat design with a plastic finish which is glossy all over. There are two metal strips which are screwed onto the edges which is a nice add-on but the overall finish seems poor. The 8-inch display is pretty sharp with a 1280×800 pixel resolution and offers decent amount of brightness. It does however fall short on performance as the viewing angles are not that impressive and under sunlight it does tend to lose visibility. Another issue we noticed was that there was a large gap between the actual panel and the protective glass on top. This brings in a black outline around the display which does not make for the best visual element. Since the tablet is voice enabled, there is an earpiece along with some sensors and the front camera above the display.
There are two nice stereo speakers on the bottom edge which provide loud enough volume, but with average clarity. The back is very glossy and houses the 5MP rear camera and the brand logo In terms of design and build, the Canvas Tab P666 is actually a good attempt by Micromax as it looks much better than most of its products.
In the short time that we played around with the tablet, we noticed that the performance was not shabby at all. Everything ran smoothly and apps work without any issues. We ran some synthetic benchmark tests and placed it against the best tablet that we have tested in the same size-segement
Overall, we think its a decent start for the Micromax and Intel alliance and hopefully we will see even better products in the future.
