Meet Volant, the world’s first 3-in-1 headphone
HIGHLIGHTS

Volant packs earphones, headphones, Bluetooth in a single device, making it the most versatile headphone in the world!

Kickstarter is known to be the residing hub for innovative tech startups looking to shock and awe the world. One such startup on the crowdfunding platform is an ambitious project called Volant Sound, a London based startup looking to raise £100,000 pounds (Rs. 89,28,440 approx) for their ambitious venture of getting the world’s first 3-in-1 headphones to market.

As the startup claims, the Volant can seamlessly switch between corded earphones, headphone and wireless headphones, for its 3-in-1 functionality. When switching from earphones to headphones, one needs to place the small earphones in the larger headphone shell (see image above). The audio signal is then carried through the company’s patent pending nodes into the large 40mm speakers in the over-ear headphones. So, the audio from your device travels to the earphones, and then to the headphones, adding an extra travel leg to the audio signal. The Volant earphones also feature passive noise cancelling, although it is not clear if the same functionality is carried forward to the headphone speakers, when connected to the headphone shell.

The headphones themselves can also be used wirelessly, thanks to built-in Bluetooth connectivity. These are made from Aluminium and are covered in leather for comfort, while the ear cushions are made up of memory foam. As far as the sound quality is concerned, the headphones feature 40mm dynamic drivers, with a frequency response of 20HZ to 20KHZ. The headphones also have a built-in 300mAh Lithium Ion battery, which the company claims can offer 10 hours of continuous Bluetooth playback. The earphones on the other hand feature 6mm dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 20HZ to 20KH. The earphones also sport an in-built microphone and an in-line remote for play, pause and skip.

Currently the earphones/headphones connect using a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the best part is that the company seems to be future ready. The startup’s Kickstarter page says that if Apple removes the headphone jack from the upcoming iPhone 7, they will include a lightning adaptor gratis! They might want to take note that some smartphone makers have already done away with the 3.5mm jack.

If you want to be one of the first few people to get their hands on Volant, check out the startup’s early bird, Kickstarter prices here. For those in India, get ready to shell out anywhere between Rs. 14,724 – Rs. 16,063, which is cheap considering the fallen value of the Pound right now (Yay! Brexit).
