Last week, we asked our readers if they were looking forward to the Google Nexus 7 tablet from Asus, which has yet to be launched in India. We received 662 responses, and would like to thank you for your enthusiastic willingness to share your opinion on the matter.
The Google Nexus 7 tablet was introduced at the Google IO developer event last month, as the platform lead device for the incremental update to Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The Nexus 7, manufactured by Asus, bears a 7-inch 1280×800 pixel capacitive touchscreen, and is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with its 12-core GPU, coupled with 1GB RAM. The front of the device has a layer of Corning FIT glass, while the display itself features Asus “TruVivid” technology.
Recent reports unfortunately have indicated a Nexus 7 screen popping issue, one that will hopefully not be present in the units that ship to India. You can check out our previous coverage of the device for more details of its specifications, or read our review of it.
The majority of respondents (351 votes, or 53%) chose the option “Depends on its India pricing!”, showing that while readers are excited about the new Jelly Bean-based tablet from Google, they are sceptical of its pricing in the country, and if it will actually follow the $200 pricing accurately, anywhere between Rs. 10,500 and Rs. 12,000. Like the rest of you, we’ll just have to wait and see, though we expect Google and Asus to ensure a sufficiently low price.
30%, or 198 respondents chose the option “Yes, I’d rather buy that than the iPad!”, indicating that many of our readers would prefer the more basic Google Nexus 7 tablet to the iPad, which is also more expensive. Whether this is just a factor of cost, or a question of preference between interfaces and ecosystems, is unclear.
Interestingly, the number of respondents (61, or 9%) who chose the option “No, I am not interested in tablets.”, is more than those (52, or 8%) who chose the option “No, I prefer the iPad!”, indicating there are more who are not interested in tablets in general, than those who prefer iPads to other tablets.
