IFA 2015: Expect these!
Berlin's yearly tech party, IFA, begins soon, and there's a lot that's expected. A lot more than just smartphones, actually.
The big tech shows this year have all been about much more than just smartphones. In fact, CES was more about TVs, with almost no smartphones, while MWC also focused on a lot of things other than phones. So, when we talk about what to expect from IFA 2015, you can expect the trend to continue. Only, smartphones will make a greater proportion this time. There's a lot on the smartwatch front, while we may get to see plenty of other interesting devices, partnerships and announcements.
Samsung
Samsung looks to take its Tizen-powered smartwatches into the next gear, excuse the pun. The company is going to launch the next edition of its Galaxy Gear smartwatch series, namely, the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.
LG
While LG is expected to revive its G Pro series with a new ‘super premium smartphone’, the company doesn’t really seem to be focusing on phones this year. LG is sure to talk more about its OLED technology.
Motorola
Back to smartwatches, the next iteration of the Moto 360 smartwatch is also expected to be unveiled at IFA this year. From what we’ve seen through leaks, the watch looks almost the same, but with a different button placement. There are two versions expected though, one with a slightly smaller dial than the original.
Sony
While Samsung and co. boast their 2K displays, Sony is kicking things up a notch with a 4k display on the Xperia Z5, or so it is rumoured.
The phone is expected to launch at IFA, along with a smaller Xperia Z5 Compact smartphone.
Asus
Like Samsung and Motorola, Asus is also bringing a smartwatch at IFA 2015. In addition, the Taiwanese company has also hinted at more devices to be launched. More Zenfones?
Microsoft
No, the Lumia 950 and 950XL aren’t going to be seen at IFA, but Microsoft does have an event scheduled for September 4. All we know about it is “a breadth of new Windows 10 devices, including tablets, 2-in-1s, premium notebooks, gaming devices and all-in-ones”.
BlackBerry
It’s been a while since we’ve been really hopeful about a new BlackBerry device coming to the market. The rumoured BlackBerry Venice though could be the one to turn the company’s fortunes around. It’s a slider running on Android Lollipop. QWERTY with Lollipop? It may just work, no?
Huawei
Leaks and rumours suggest Huawei is going to bring the Mate S smartphone at IFA 2015. The phone reportedly has high-end specs, much like its predecessors. Huawei is also expected to launch another smartphone alongside the Mate S, and there’s another rumour doing the rounds about a curved screen device.
Acer
This one could be the surprise issue at IFA this year. Acer is expected to launch not one or two, but four smartphones running on Windows 10. In addition, we’re almost certain that the company will be showcasing its IOT initiatives.
