The lockdown during COVID-19 outbreak has made video conferencing the norm for professionals and educational users in today’s world. While several services are available, Google meet has become one of the most accessible video conferencing tools for users. It offers several advanced features that make it easier for users to interact with each other while they cannot interact with them in the physical world. It has become the preferred tool for students attending classes, as well as professionals. 

Sometimes users may need to record the Google meet session for taking notes about a project or subject, or a team meeting. Do note that the Google meet record feature works only if you are attending the Meet via a PC. If you are connecting to the conference call via a smartphone then it won’t work. Here is how you can record Google Meet sessions with ease.

  • To record a Google Meet session, start or join a meeting on Google Meet.
  • Now, just click on the three dots at the bottom right corner.
  • You will get the "Record meeting" option which appears at the top of the pop-up menu.
  • Just "Accept" on the pop-up that says "Ask for consent.
  • This will start the recording, and you can choose to stop it whenever you want, or it will automatically stop when everyone leaves the meeting. The Google Meet recording will automatically be saved to the Google Drive folder.

 Do keep in mind that the recording will include the active speakers and other content that is presented. However, it will not include the notifications and other windows that you open. The live captions during the recording will also not be recorded.   

How to download the recording from Google Drive

Recordings will be saved in the My Drive > Meet Recordings folder. Simply select the file and click more and then click on Download. To play the recording double-click the downloaded file. 

How to share the recording with others

To share a recording with other users, simply select the file and click on share. You can also share the link in an email or chat message with others.
