Intel struck a deal with Flipkart recently and today it announced a bunch of new tablets ranging from 7 to 9 inches in size. All the tablets come with a healthy spec sheet and are also priced quite competitively. According to Flipkart, the Digiflip Pro range of tablets has been targeted at the mass market especially for consumers who are looking for an affordable and sturdy tablet. Essentially there are three tablets- a 7-inch, 8-inch and an 8.9-inch model with the latter two models available in Wi-Fi and 3G+Wi-Fi variants.
The 7-inch ET 701 is the most affordable of the lot and comes with fairly decent build and design. The display surprised us with its great viewing angles, brightness levels and sharpness despite having a 1024×600 pixel resolution. The edges have a chromed up look and the back has an appealing leather-like textured finish which makes the device worth the money. We wished that the bezels were a bit slimmer, but at a price of just Rs. 5,999, it is too much to ask for.
Next up are the 8-inch XT 801 (Wi-Fi) and XT 811 (3G+Wi-Fi) tablets which come with a curved back with brushed metal finish, which reminded us of the previous generation of Lumia smartphones. The 8-inchers offer a higher resolution display (1280×800) and also better build quality. There is also a pair of stereo speakers at the bottom and the volume and power keys have a nice chrome finish.
Lastly, there are the 9-inch XT 901 (Wi-Fi) and XT 911 (3G+Wi-Fi) which have the best build quality that includes a metal chassis in the middle with front and back glossy plastic panels. The tablet is a little heavy which makes it feel sturdy. Just like their younger brothers, the XT 901 and 911 have an attractive looking display and all the ports and hardware buttons feel good.
Now all the tablets do justify the price in terms of build quality and if we talk about specifications, it seems that Flipkart has done its homework. The only concern here is that even after having a big name (Intel) backing up the tablets, it is a gamble for Flipkart as not many consumers would be attracted to a tablet made by an e-commerce retailer.
During a conversation with Michael Adnani (VP – Retail and head, Flipkart), he said that the company is very optimistic about the success of the tablets and that it's trying to bring in devices according to the demands of the consumers.
Here are the full specifications of the tablets…
